PRESS RELEASE For immediate release: 31 October 2013 Contact: Sophie Ballinger press.office@eureka.org.uk Tel: 01422 330069 Eureka! gallery named UK’s Top Interactive Exhibition by Mumsnet Eureka! The National Children’s Museum is celebrating having its new gallery All About Me named the UK’s Top Interactive Exhibition for children by parenting network Mumsnet. All About Me tops the list compiled by the Mumsnet team which includes interactive galleries and exhibitions from across the UK, including the Dr Who Experience in Cardiff and Launchpad at the London Science Museum. The Yorkshire children’s museum has already welcomed more than 190,000 visitors to the new gallery, and recently launched a fundraising campaign to raise £500k to extend the gallery to include a roof terrace exploring plants and their importance to our everyday lives in foods, medicines and other essential products. Leigh-Anne Stradeski, Eureka! Chief Executive said “Mumsnet have drawn together a truly impressive list of interactive exhibitions so we’re absolutely delighted to find ourselves at the top of the pack. The opening of All About Me was the culmination of five years’ of fundraising, research and development, not to mention a lot of blood, sweat and tears - all of which you can find out more about in the gallery itself!” Eureka! officially opened the £2.9m health and body-themed gallery in March thanks to lead funding from the Wellcome Trust. All About Me aims to help children gain the knowledge, confidence and ability to make positive choices about the foods they eat and the activities they engage in. A summative evaluation completed earlier this month has shown that 97 per cent of visitors rate the gallery as excellent or good and 89 per cent felt the gallery helped them understand why their health and well-being are important. Parents particularly valued the gallery because it offers dedicated play time for families together. This recent accolade from Mumsnet brings total awards to Eureka! in 2013 to four including receiving the Bronze Award in VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence in the Access for All category, being named one of the Top Ten Great British Family Days Out 2013 by parent review website childfriendly.co.uk, and being named Best Family Day Out 2013 in Mamas & Papas Mum and Dad’s the Word awards.
