What this ordinance DOES: Gives the public a way address dilapidated and abandoned structures in their county which present a safety or health hazard. Gives the public a way to address any accumulation of refuse, toxic spillage or toxic seepage that is unsafe, unsanitary and detrimental to public safety. Creates an Enforcement Agency made up of professionals and considerate citizens to investigate complaints and assist in mitigation of hazards. Protects the rights of property owners and works WITH them to correct hazardous conditions on their property. Allows the Enforcement Agency to apply for grants and other funds to ensure the health and safety of its citizens. What you can do: What this ordinance DOES NOT DO: Affect any buildings being used for farming. Allow neighbors to lodge complaints about unsightly conditions unless there is a public health or safety hazard. Place liens on or sell property without notice.
