INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS INSTITUTE OF INDIA January 11, 2016 Half-Day Conference on What every Manager should know about the proposed new Contract Labour Act and recent Amendments to the Factories Act (Maharashtra Rules) – on Friday, February 5, 2016 between 9.30 am and 1.00 p.m. at the West End Hotel, 45 New Marine Lines, Mumbai – 400020. About the Conference: Dramatic and radical changes have been proposed in the Contract Labour Act and by default, for any violation of the Contract Labour Act by the Contractor, the contractor’s employees may become the liability of the Principal Employer. These and other radical proposals completely alter the present paradigm in which Contract Labour is engaged in industries. The concept of unlicenced Contractor is done away with. The Act will apply to any organization that employs 10 or more contract labour. Maharashtra, that is angling to make it the destination for the Make in India being promoted by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, has announced several changes to the Factories Act. It will not only facilitate the ease of doing business, but the amended Act permits engagement of women employees in the night shift. Trade Unions, worker leaders and workmen need to become aware of the changes proposed as in many organizations, contract labour now employed is many times more than the permanent workmen employed.
