District 11 FVA Meeting

Spring 2011 minutes were reviewed and approved. Motion by Leland Theriot, 2nd by Whitney
Verdoni.
Motion to approve minutes passed.
Old Business
A. All State Procedures were reviewed. Audition fee remains @ $12 per student, as of May 2010
Discussion of location, days, and dates, including 2 locations for the exam and sight-reading
portion. Concern over new tech requirements for the 2 nd audition, and the length of time for
auditions. Concern: some of the language is unclear and some directors find it confusing. Those
directors who attended the summer convention in Altamonte Springs were helpful in walking
others through the new processes.
Reading and Mixed Chorus are Honor Choirs. Representation of schools is still a part of the final
selection process. Please read hand book, attend meetings and view web site for information.
1. Test 1 – Simultaneous Testing North and South
2. Test 2 – MS/HS split at centrally located sites. HS to audition on Thursday. MS to audition
the following Saturday. ?????
3. District will purchase bar code scanners. Scantron readers will have to be available for the
Exam.
B. District MPA’s
1. Successful MPA’s with increase in number of participating choirs and decrease in solo and
ensemble entries. Well run and excellent facilities at Charlotte HS. Great atmosphere and
attitude of student support for each other. We are able to schedule Choral MPA there for
next year, per building charges.
2. Review of online procedures – same as last year. Kirsten recommended inputting all
students and adjusting as necessary. A tutorial was suggested to help directors with the online system.
3. Send suggestions for judges to Marti Koch
4. District will be purchasing MP3 players.
State MPA
Comments on south facilities. We are reminded to pay attention to all paperwork needed and to
follow the rules concerning original copies.
New Business
A. New All-State Procedures – Study them! Practice with students.
We are buying 4 MP3’s and cords to be used for judging. Three teacher lap tops will be needed.
B. Review Calendar 2011-2012
All-State Audition 1: September 29, 2011 North and South simultaneously (2nd choice 10/6).
Paperwork is due September 15, 2011 (postmarked 9/13).
2. All-State Audition 2: HS on Thursday, October 27,2011; MS on Saturday, October 29,2011
(2nd choice HS 11/3, MS 11/1)
3. Choral MPA @ Charlotte HS – February 23-25, 2012 (Paperwork Due 1/20) Repertoire 2
weeks later)
4. Solo and Ensemble MPA: South - March 23, North – March 24, 2012 (Paperwork Due 2/17)
Can send both together with separate checks for each MPA.
5. Fall Meeting @ SW Christian School in Fort Myers – Thursday, August 16th @ 6:30 p.m.
