Our approach is to offer a consultancy advice which covers the complete development life cycle with the team. Waterman are at the forefront of developments in legislation, research and technology and have an extensive hydraulic and hydrological experience including watercourse, groundwater and catchment modelling, drainage assessment and design, and all levels of flood risk assessment, progressing to flood alleviation, prevention design and infrastructure protection. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated candidate for the position of Graduate Hydrologist/Engineer, based in our Edinburgh office. The candidate will be supported in this role by a Principal Hydrology and hydrology team, as well as the wider engineering team in the Edinburgh office and other offices throughout the UK. Candidates will be required to undertake field work and desk based assessments, including report writing and design. Typical responsibilities of the job include: Using specialist computer modelling applications Employing statistical and hydrological modelling techniques Determining the most effective water management methods and providing engineering solutions for drainage systems and flood risk mitigation Liaising with clients, consultants, water regulators, researchers, external bodies and other professionals Report writing and CAD Typical work involved with: Pre-planning Studies – site assessment, identifying constraints due to flooding and drainage, and carrying out engineering appraisals Flood Risk Assessments – flow calculations, 1D and 2D watercourse modelling, flood mapping, flood mitigation and alleviation design Conceptual and Detailed Drainage Design - Sustainable drainage (SUDS) and sewer system design Hydropower - feasibility, scoping assessments and detailed design Occasionally there will be an overlap with geotechnical, environmental impact, planning and transportation studies We are currently working on a wide range of projects, covering a number of sectors. We work for a range of private developers, utility companies, and local authorities throughout Scotland and the UK.
