One poem of any form, style or content may be submitted. Submit poems at
registration table, as well.

Notes on Our Presenters
Dr. James M. Gifford is the CEO and Senior Editor of the Jesse Stuart Foundation, a regional
press and bookseller headquartered in Ashland, Kentucky. During his twenty-eight years at the
helm of the Foundation, Gifford has edited and published almost 150 books that focus on the
history and literature of Kentucky and Appalachia. Dr. Gifford received the B.A. degree from
Maryville College, the M.A. degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and his Ph.D. in
history from the University of Georgia. He has published in historical, educational and literary
journals and has won professional awards as a teacher, author, and publisher. His Jesse Stuart:
An Extraordinary Life, was nominated for the Weatherford Award in 2010. Dr. Gifford’s Hidden
Heroes of the Big Sandy Valley is another recent publication and will be available at the Awards
Weekend conference along with other Jesse Stuart Foundation titles.
Mr. Christopher Prewitt is a native Kentuckian who has earned the MA from Morehead State University
and the MFA from Virginia Tech, where he studied with Bob Hicok and other major writers. His work
has appeared in many North American journals, including The Iowa Review, Rattle, Vinyl, and Ghost
Ocean Magazine. He is currently circulating his full length manuscript, The Autobiography of a
