When we arrived, we were greeted by Isiah, the farm manager. We were given an overview of the farm and it's history. He then gave us the tour of the lab. Here they prepare, cool, test, and store semen. Following this, we got back on the bus and headed to the sire barn. This is where the bulls first come before they go to any other barn. Then the herdsman explained to us the basis of collecting semen from the bulls. After this, we got to look at the bulls. Overall, this was a great learning experience all around and was worth the trip! 2. For next year, I would think about going earlier in the day. This would be so that the students could also see the collections, if the Freshman schedule works for this. Dr. Young's guest from Kosovo was great to have along. If there is any visiting scientists I would highly recommend taking them along if it works as well. He gave the students an insight of what animal agriculture is in other countries. Also, Dr. Youngs has pictures of the group on the tour. Would it be possible for each mentor to do a presentation about the trip. This would explain to the other students what the trip was about and open their eyes to the respective business.
