Match Report – PNE U13s v Town Green - Home match Sat 19th Sept
13 girls turned out for PNE on a crisp September morning, conditions were excellent and both teams
seemed up for the match.
PNE dominated the first few minutes pressing Town Green in the away team’s box. Macey, solid as
ever made a couple of outstanding tackles as Town Green grew in confidence and pushed forward.
The majority of the possession though initially remained with PNE who strung together some great
passes, pressuring the Town Green defence as they pushed their backline up the pitch. Town Green’s
pacey forwards exploited the space between keeper and defence and broke through to score 0-1.
After the restart Lauren had a shot on goal blocked by an excellent save from Town Greens keeper
before Town Green again broke through and outpaced our backs - 0-2.
And that was pretty much the pattern of the first half, PNE pushing forward with their defence
holding a high line around the halfway point. Town Green defended staunchly especially their no14
centre back who was letting nothing past her…..Then Goal number 3 - 0-3 and Goal 4 - 0-4 both
again catching PNE on the break.
Halftime 0-4
The break gave the girls a chance to take a breather, regroup and restart with a different formation 3 defending at the back. PNE made an excellent start with 3 quick attempts on goal from Lara and
Tani - then….0-5 a fifth goal again catching the PNE girls on the break.
As the second half progressed Lydia had to make a fantastic save to keep the scoreline in check. The
Preston goalie wasn’t as pressured as she had been in the first half with Preston’s back line trio
keeping the Town Green attack at bay.
Preston rained shots on the Town Green goal but were unable to hit the back of the net, Tani and
Lara having around 8 shots between them in quick succession. Town Green then broke again 0-6
Undaunted Preston kept up the relentless attack on goal and were rewarded when 5 minutes from
time Ellis scored quickly followed by Tahnee - just rewards for the dozen or so decent attempts on
the Town Green goal in the second half.
Final score 2-6
Man of the match was Jodi who battled in mid-field throughout the match feeding our strikers and
shoring up the defence when needed.
Well done girls
