Project Manager – Hospice Orillia
Hospice Orillia has a 25 year history of providing excellent community Palliative Care. Recently the
Board of Directors has decided that the time is right to significantly expand our programming to include
a Residential Hospice Program. We are seeking a Project Manager who will manage the implementation
of this project.
Hospice Orillia’s Residential Hospice is a co-location model that will require minimal up front capital
investment.
This is a 7 month contract.
Position Summary
The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall implementation of the Residential Hospice In
Orillia in accordance with the existing business plan and continuing until the Hospice is open.
Working Relationships
The Project Manager will work closely with the Residential Hospice Development Officer and the
Executive Director to ensure all preparatory work is in place to ensure a sustainable Residential Hospice
is developed in Orillia.












General Duties
Plan the project
Define the scope of the project in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Directors;
Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully
complete the project;
Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc) required to complete the project;
Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities;
Review the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the
project activities; revise the schedule as required;
Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion.
Implement the project
Execute the project according to the project plan;
Negotiate funding and leasing arrangements;
Develop forms and records to document project activities and in preparation for opening;
Set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured;
Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful
completion of the project;
Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the
organization on the progress of the project;

Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it
meets the project standards.

Control the project
Write reports on the project for management, funders and doners;
Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements; and with the public at key milestones;
Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures;
Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to senior management on a
regular basis (monthly/bimonthly);
Develop a budget for the ongoing operations of Residential Hospice.





Staff the project:
Develop a staffing model meeting HPCO standards;
Develop appropriate policies and procedures required for start up;
Create job descriptions and recruitment plans.
Hire the Residence Manager
Support the Residence Manager in recruiting and selecting start up staffing


Conditions of work:
37.5 hours, significant evening and weekend work will be required.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.













Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Community College diploma in a related field
Significant successful experience in managing a project of a similar scope and complexity.
Demonstrated ability to build networks and relationships with colleagues, vendors, media and
community outreach.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred experience on agency “startup”
Superior communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
Able to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
Preference will be given to individuals with extensive knowledge of the Orillia community
