Dear Uplift Mighty Primary Families,
The Texas Education Agency has released its 2014-15 Accountability Ratings for all Texas public schools. Uplift Mighty Preparatory
School was successful in meeting all but one of the four indexes in order to receive an overall “Met Standards” rating. As a result, we
received the “Improvement Needed” rating. Below is an explanation of the rating breakdown and our plans to address the one area
in which we need to improve. The good news is that Uplift Mighty scholars more than doubled their Student Progress Target Score
and exceeded the Student Achievement and Closing Performance Gap Targets by 4 points each.
This rating is based on up to 4 performance indexes: 1) Student Achievement, 2) Student Progress, 3) Closing Performance Gaps,
and 4) Postsecondary Readiness. Last year, schools and districts were required to achieve “Met Standard” on all four indexes to earn
an overall “Met Standard” rating. This year, all schools must achieve “Met Standard” on index 1 or 2 plus 3 and 4 to earn an overall
“Met Standard” rating.
At Uplift Mighty, the TEA rated the entire campus (K-9) rather than by primary, middle and high school in the 2014-15 school year.
The detail below shows our ratings in each category and our middle school plan for improvement in 2015-16.
 Index 1: Student Achievement: MET STANDARD
o This index is based on the level of STAAR satisfactory performance for all scholars across all tested subject areas.

Index 2: Student Progress: MET STANDARD
o Measures the level at which scholars are making progress year-to-year.

Index 3: Closing Performance Gaps: MET STANDARD
o This index tracks academic achievement of our highest need scholars
Index 4: Postsecondary Readiness: NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
o This index is based on grade level achievement at postsecondary levels for multiple tests.
o Primary School Plan:
o Mighty Primary will focus on the following area for the 2015-16 school year: data driven instruction,
literacy with the implementation of effective cognitive thinking strategies, and social and emotional
development through character education. Teachers will receive extensive training each month to enable
them to meet scholars at their academic levels and accelerate their performance by providing them with
strategies and skills to successfully be prepared for the rigors of both high school and college.
o The goal of Mighty Primary’s intervention program is to create independent readers who can successfully
think through and analyze a variety of texts. We will provide scholars with literacy intervention for all
grade levels, from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Scholars performing below grade level receive at least 30
minutes of accelerated instruction as well as in class guided reading support.
o Our goal is to not only prepare scholars for college, but also to enable them to outperform their peers
and acquire scholarships. In order to enrich their learning experience, those scholars performing at and
above grade level in grades 3-5 will receive novel study and skills practice outside of the classroom.

I am confident that we will see significant improvement in our scholars’ STAAR performance this year in all four indexes. Our team
of teachers, interventionists, support staff, and administration is committed to the academic success of each and every one of our
scholars. We encourage parents to support us in our initiatives by reaching out proactively to teachers for ways to support their

o Middle School Plan:
o Uplift Middle School has chosen three core values of hard work, respect & responsibility that scholars are
recognized for embodying on the individual in team level, in order to increase overall motivation, urgency
& focus across all classes. 6th grade scholars will receive 100% more time in math for the 2015-2016
school year, engaging in math instruction and problem solving for a minimum of 90 minutes per day, 7th &
8th grade scholars are receiving 50% more time in both math & reading.
o Middle School is piloting a blended learning program for a daily 70-minute intervention block, where
100% of scholars receive small-group, computer & collaborative learning time in each session.
o Scholars are differentiated for and tracked based on MAP data so that they receive help and practice with
the skills they need the most.
I am confident that we will see significant improvement in our scholars’ STAAR performance this year in all four indexes. Our team

o High School Plan:





10th grade scholars are in differentiated classes to best address individual student needs
9th grade scholars English and Math classes were priorities in the schedule, with additional classes added to
maintain small class sizes of less than 20 scholars to provide more individual attention.
An intervention period, differentiated by ability and again kept at a site do 20 or less, lasting 70 minutes will be
used every day, with scholars receiving targeted grammar lessons to reinforce concepts that have been
identified by previous assessments like MAP and EPAs, designed specifically to correct prior misconceptions in
English subject matter
Teachers are receiving professional development surrounding literacy strategies and English Language
Proficiency Standards. All scholar lessons across all content will have a speaking, listening, reading and writing
component.
With these interventions in place, I am confident that our scholars will show increased performance on the End
of Course exams and the Explore and Plan tests. Our team of teachers and staff are committed to the academic and
emotional success of all our scholars. We invite all our families to engage in a working partnership with us as we
prepare their children for college and beyond and to reach out with any questions or concerns.
