On asking the children if they knew what special celebration it was at the end of this week one child replied, “It’s Chinese New Year and my mum is coming into speak to the
class and she’s bringing in a cake special Chinese cake.” This intrigued other children in the class and discussion was then generated about experiences of tasting Chinese
foods, pandas, why people celebrate Chinese New Year and what they do to celebrate.
