SUNY-ESF Learning Community This mission of the Learning Community Program at SUNY ESF is to promote, enhance, and support students’ academic, personal, and professional growth and success through the development of a residential Learning Community experience. Goals Academic Support Services To assist students in developing self understanding and acceptance by providing opportunities to understand their own academic strengths and limitations. To assist students with proper decision making skills that best reflects their own personal and academic goals and objectives. Motivating students to develop an interest in community development through academic studentto-student relationships. Provide appropriate institutional specific information regarding policies and procedures, along with appropriate referrals, to assist in our students’ ability to navigate the college’s diverse support programs and services. Facilitating college transitions by fostering smaller communities of students, faculty, and staff. Office of Career Services Mission The mission of the Career Services Office at SUNY-ESF is to assist ESF students and alumni in applying their education and experiences toward advancing their career goals over a lifetime. The office offers various personalized services, programs and resources to guide in developing the skills necessary in advancing through ESF and entering into a rewarding career. Goals Teach and support students throughout their career development process: self-assessment, career exploration and skill development, job search/decision making and career management. Partner with employers and alumni to maximize program and employment opportunities for students. Demonstrate effective citizenship by fostering an inclusive campus community. Develop and implement Career Services assessment action plan Office of Counseling and Disabilities Mission The Counseling and Disabilities Services Office is dedicated to promoting the psychological and developmental wellbeing of students aimed at enriching personal and academic growth. It is the goal of Counseling and Disabilities Services office to remain closely connected to and engaged with students, faculty, and staff in their endeavors to secure the achievement of a college experience of the highest quality and satisfaction. Goals Provide support and assistance to students in their pursuit of personal and academic growth. Provide programming to students, faculty, and staff based on identified needs of these populations. Demonstrate effective citizenship through collaboration and by fostering an inclusive campus community. Utilize technology as a tool for the communication and delivery of services. Office of Judicial Affairs Mission Support the College’s educational mission and goals by promoting a just, safe, orderly, and positive climate through behavioral standards, disciplinary processes, training, informational programming and intervention efforts. Goals Promote a campus environment that supports the overall educational mission of the College. Encourage appropriate standards of individual and group behavior. Foster ethical standards and civic virtues. Teach students about appropriate behavior and community membership. Intervene effectively when behavior violates the Code of Conduct. Office of Multicultural Affairs Mission ESF Multicultural Affairs exists to support underrepresented students and to foster a campus community where cultural diversity is appreciated. The department seeks to be a center of cultural learning which prepares all members of the ESF community to effectively interact with others in an increasingly diverse and global society. Goals Multicultural Affairs designs programs, activities and services to promote cultural development. Through an array of programs and services, Multicultural Affairs helps recruit and support underrepresented students in their endeavors at ESF. Multicultural Affairs provides material and information resources to help members of the college community identify and connect with others who can offer support in a variety of ways, including linguistic, ethnic, ideological, or cultural aspects of life. Office of Student Activities Mission Statement The Office of Student Activities serves to enrich the co-curricular experience of students in the areas of personal development, leadership, and community involvement. To this end, the Office assists individuals, student organizations and the student government in determining and realizing goals; manages major College events; and serves as an accessible student advocate and liaison. Goals Provide leadership training, as well as opportunities, for all students on campus through a variety of venues including workshops, educational sessions, student-led program committees and oneon-one advising. Provide consulting and advising on program development including direct advisement and mentoring to student organizations and leaders. In cooperation with the Office of Counseling and Disability Services, provide social and recreational activities to promote balance, wellness and stress relief to help students to increase their productivity in the classroom and their overall satisfaction with the college experience. Provide opportunities for students to further connect with their communities on a local, national and international basis through the development of community partnerships and faculty collaboration. Provide a positive transitional experience for new incoming students and their families to ESF’s campus.
