Procedures for Compensation or Reassessment (CE) - Guidance notes and proforma for students 1 Decision about your extenuating circumstances You are eligible for a compensated pass but you also have a reassessment opportunity. This is because you have had extenuating circumstances and your request to repeat an assessment attempt was accepted in the module at some point during your studies. The module will be shown on your results transcript with an overall grade of CE. 2 What you must do Please tell your Faculty Office in writing, within ten working days of the date that your results become final, whether you wish to accept a compensated pass in the module or take the assessment again. Please use the reply slip below. Overseas students should contact their Faculty Office by phone or email to confirm their decision. If you do not reply by this deadline, we will assume that you do not want to be compensated and that you want to complete reassessment. 3 What you can choose to do For the module with a grade of CE, you need to decide whether to: 4 accept a compensated pass and complete the level of study. If you choose to do this, your CE grade will be changed to CP (Compensated Pass) and your transcript will confirm your credit in the module, or complete reassessment during the next academic year. This may mean extending your studies or completing the work alongside the next level of study. Points to consider before you make your choice You cannot progress normally on undergraduate courses if you have continued reassessment in more than 60 credits without attendance. This 60 credit maximum includes modules in which you have chosen to take continued reassessment. You can progress carrying continued reassessment from the level below only. This means that you cannot progress to level 6 carrying level 4 credit. You will normally be set a different piece of work from the original. If the further assessment is in a task that is referred, the maximum mark that you can achieve in the task is 40%. Additionally, if the further assessment is in a retake module, the maximum overall mark that you can achieve in the module is 40%. If you decide to accept a compensated pass, this decision stands. You cannot be reassessed at a later date. If you also have a module with a result of Conditional Compensation (CC), your decision in the CE module will directly affect the final result of the CC module and could affect progression to the next level of your course. You should discuss the implications of this with your Faculty Office.
