Press Release Industrielle Biotechnologie Bayern Netzwerk GmbH January 28, 2016 “Industrial Biotechnology Forum 2016” – A new scientific conference series about Industrial Biotechnology starts in Munich Munich, 01/28/2016 - The Research Center for Industrial Biotechnology of the Technische Universität München (TUM) and the IBB Netzwerk GmbH pursue a common goal: to illustrate the value and promote the Industrial Biotechnology as an important present and future technology in research and in the industrial implementation. For this reason, they launch the "Industrial Biotechnology Forum" (IBF) as an international platform for presentation and discussion on Industrial Biotechnology. The IBF 2016 is the opening conference and will take place from 14th to 15th March 2016 in Garching near Munich. Early bird registration is open until February 15th, 2016. "Industrial Biotechnology" means advanced conversion processes that yield innovative, resourcesaving and/or climate-friendly solutions in many industrial sectors. To highlight the scientific, industrial and political relevance of the Industrial Biotechnology and to encourage a productive exchange of knowledge, the TUM-Research Center for Industrial Biotechnology and the IBB Netzwerk GmbH have joint forces and are organizing the Industrial Biotechnology Forum as an international scientific conference for the first time this year. The focus is on interdisciplinary discussions of current trends, the latest scientific results and future technologies in the field of Industrial Biotechnology. The IBF 2016 will take place from 14th to 15th March 2016 at the TUMFaculty of Mechanical Engineering in Garching (near Munich). Thereafter, the conference will be continued in a two-year cycle. Preparations for the IBF 2016 are running at full steam. Eight well-known international and national scientists have already committed themselves as keynote speakers for the opening conference; among them, there are representatives from Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Further speakers are currently recruited in a selection process based on submitted abstracts. In addition, numerous research results will be presented on posters; the best posters can look forward to prizes sponsored by Springer-Verlag. To offer the conference participants sufficient time for new contacts and interactions in a relaxed atmosphere, the first evening is rounded off by a gala dinner with musical accompaniment. In the afternoon of March 15, the twoday conference closes with guided tours to the TUM-Pilot Plant for White Biotechnology in Garching and the TUM Algae Pilot Plant in Ottobrunn. At the IBF 2016, not only scientists from academia and industry come together, the relevance of the Industrial Biotechnology is also visible on the political level. The welcoming speech will be held by TUM President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang A. Herrmann. Furthermore, the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs will be present at the conference opening through a speech of Dr. Ronald Mertz, Head of Section "Innovation, Research, Technology”. Besides that, the joint project "Advanced Biomass Value" funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research will present results on the latest developments in algae research at the IBF 2016.
