There are mooring bases in the park however there is a
lack of funding and capacity to keep them maintained.
Additional moorings here is a good idea due to high use.
North of this current drawing, there is often poor water
quality if there is a lot of discharge from Lake O – divers
go south out of the dirty/poor vis water.
Group agreed that there should be more MBs within the
park. Increase # and regulate those already in high use.
Discussed rotating the buoys, but again the lack of
funding and capacity to rotate buoys is an issue.

Breakers Reef
Currently 16 buoys at Breakers reef; all shallow areas
and deeper sites have buoys. Need updated buoys data
but still drew box around to designate it as high priority
area.
There are areas that get covered and exposed quite
frequently, but other areas are exposed most of the time.
Exposure of hard bottom has a large impact on what
communities would be using this location.

Reduce anchor damage on coral reef
Discussion
Combined groups decide to add an additional drawing
south of Hillsboro Inlet, extending existing buoys at
Suzanne’s Ledge north.
Suggested that the existing buoys frequently fill up,
such that there is medium – high anchor pressure north
of the buoys.

SCWG made assumption that because of the Navy
Exclusion Zone it’s illegal to anchor so no need for
buoys; but the reality is that people are anchoring there.
Recent Behringer data shows a lot of anchoring near
state park and aerojacks.
Inshore waters adjacent to the State Park, there are no
mooring buoys nearshore here.
