East London University Technical College, Elutec, is an innovative new centre of
excellence for young people aged 14 to 19 who aspire to follow a career in design
and engineering. Located on the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing
Excellence campus in Rainham, we offer an exciting opportunity to help shape the
future of Elutec and work with employers across east London and the Thames
Gateway to develop an outstanding school for the benefit of its students.
Starts - This post is to start in September 2014.
Reports to – The Principal
Salary Range - Elutec salary range D - £26,500 - £41,000 (depending on skills
and experience).
As a teacher at Elutec you will have a minimum set of key responsibilities, as listed
below, and opportunity to develop your role further.
Key responsibilities
Within Elutec
 Ensuring that the vision and values of Elutec and its sponsors are evident in
every aspect of the discharge of the duties of the post
 Modelling the highest professional standards to other staff, students, parents
and partners in all aspects of the role through leading by example
 Showing commitment to the senior leadership team working in a cohesive,
supportive and forward thinking manner
 Working with other colleagues, play an active role in delivering Elutec policies
and procedures
 Cooperating and collaborating with other team members, sharing
responsibility as appropriate
 Working closely and effectively with your line manager
 Contributing to student recruitment and retention
 Being an inspirational and aspirational teacher
 Being prepared to work in other areas of Elutec as directed
 Keeping up to date with developments in the curriculum area, teaching
resources and methods and make relevant changes to schemes of work and
lesson plans as appropriate.
 Agreeing time to engage with regular 1:1 opportunities with your line
manager

Curriculum
 Development and implementation of the PE curriculum
 Working closely with existing and new Challenge Partners to
facilitate contextualised learning
 Working closely with your lie manager to develop and improve both the
curriculum and its assessment
 Looking for and encourage extracurricular interests by students and support
staff to develop subject knowledge
Teaching and learning
 Offer a second subject in addition to PE
 In the first year PE will not be a subject choice however it is anticipated this
might change as student numbers grow and depending on demand.
 Developing own teaching practice with a relentless drive to be outstanding
 Teaching the classes given to you within the timetable
 Monitoring and evaluating student progress in your class groups
 Developing and implementing intervention activities for students who are not
progressing well in your class groups
 Developing excellent use of ICT to further student progress through
innovative teaching and learning styles
 Contributing to schemes of work, including lesson plans, that will enable
access to the highest grades by all students in all courses taught in the
curriculum area
 Establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities
 Preparing thoroughly for learning activities
 Providing a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational
activities through the identification of selection of appropriate resources and
methods to meet students' varying needs
 Using relevant technology to support the learning process and ensuring that
all such learning resources are available to students
 Observing and evaluating students' performance and development
 Setting and assessing students' work, providing appropriate feedback,
encouraging and monitoring the progress of individual students
 Maintaining accurate and complete electronic records of all students' progress
and developing and updating all necessary MIS records accurately and
completely as required.
Key accountability measures
 In cooperation with the Principal or designated person, manage the effective
use of the Elutec minibuses
 Developing and facilitating student access to a wide range of sports activities
both local and further a field where appropriate
 Manage the Extension Activities programme for the Wednesday afternoons
 A positive Progress 8 measure for your students in KS4
 All Level 3 courses delivered to be in the upper quartile against all schools
nationally with at least 50% gaining A or B and 100% gaining a pass grade.
 100% pass rate in level 2 courses delivered at Key Stage 5.
 Achieving ‘good’ or better lesson observation grades consistently.

Behaviour management
 Maintaining the highest standards of personal attendance and
conduct which delivers Elutec’s aspiration to reflect the ethos and
standards found in the best workplaces
 Managing behaviour of students at Elutec, alongside other colleagues, to
ensure that the expected standards are achieved and maintained
General
 Effectively working with Technical Learning Mentors and Learning Support
Mentors within the team
 Playing an active role in fostering outstanding progress and achievement for
students and staff alike
 Participating in curriculum, staff and parent meetings and communicating
necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding
student progress and student needs
 Participating in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting
activities, clubs, student organisations and residentials and leadership of one
extension activity each week.
 Carrying out such additional duties as requested by the Principal

Person Specification
You should be able to give evidence for the following essential skills and abilities and
those that are desirable where applicable and appropriate.
Essential
 Qualified Teacher Status
 Degree in Physical Education
 D1 category on licence to drive minibuses. (D1 training may be provided by
Elutec for an appropriate candidate)
 Consistently good or better teaching at KS4 and 5
 Ability to set high expectations of self and engender a culture of continuous
improvement
 Ability to demonstrate outcomes for young people that are consistently high
 Enthusiasm and passion for the subject
 Experience of delivering extracurricular activities
 A commitment to develop personal subject knowledge
 The ability to manage student behaviour effectively
 Promotion of excellence at all levels
 Evidence of positive relationships with students, peers and stakeholders
 The ability to modify teaching and learning to support both those with a
special educational need and those who are gifted and talented
 Student focused and dedicated to achievement for all
 Effective interpersonal skills
 The ability to demonstrate Emotional Intelligence
