New Board Members 8 Candidates for board: We could choose 5; Could choose less or more. Rhonda goes over her opinion of candidates. 1. Lisa: corporate background, management consulting, Rhonda likes that she asks good questions 2. Wendy Peters Moschetti - FRA experience, development and health equity experience, consultant on food issues 3. Summer Laws - non-profit startup experience. 4. Becky Higbee - lots of time available, organizational knowledge, physician 5. Ashley Rumble - fundraising plans, individual donor relations 6. Nina Holtz - community partnership building, lots of time available, connections to CU faculty in other departments, maybe, for research partnerships. A bit concerned that she lives at the Radish. 7. Stephen Bolling - needs direction 8. Lauren Spinrad - didn’t take it seriously Barbara goes over her opinion 1. Lisa Lai: Developed and high level of expertise. Her profession would be a huge benefit to Hana. Without knowing BFR, she is spot on regarding the needs over the next 2 years. Too good to be true? Definitely #1 of all applicants. 2. Wendy Moschetti: Loads and varied experience with food issues. Grant knowledge highlighting analytical and writing skills. Dynamic in ability to engage an audience and impart information. (observation from FFS) 3. Nina Holtz: Passion for BFR. Strongly connected to CU...benefit. Current fellowship a plus, especially with the connections to The Community Foundation and the Boulder Chamber. Willing to invest time. 4. Ashley Rumble: Enthusiasm is evident on application. Young development professional and gaining experience. Could use more experience, but believe 5. 6. 7. 8. that she would benefit from board work. Strong application….said the right things. Summer Laws: Liked her application the best until I saw the others. Solid management experience in nonprofit work. Grant writing and research experience. Didn’t feel she was engaging as a speaker at the FFS. Becky Higbee: ER doc...will she really have the time? 5-10 hrs. per week? Great knowledge of BFR is a benefit, however, having another founder on the board is not appealing to the board structure. Stephen: Passionate for homeless. Solid volunteer with BFR. Wasn’t wowed by application. Lauren: adorable Cha Cha <3 Hana: 1. Wendy: Incredibly knowledgeable of food landscape in CO. Worked with her before and she is super on point. Advocacy efforts and knowledge of FRA will be incredibly helpful. 2. Becky: Application and ideas for BFR were really solid. Has tons of time. Incredible passion for organization. She is a volunteer. Provides medical background for why healthy food access is so important. 3. Ashley: Development director experience, incredible passion for BFR. Easy to work with. Connections in the community. 4. Summer: BCPH perspective is important. Great at educational campaigning. Quieter but great facilitator and knowledgeable about health outcomes, impact. Has tons of connections in the community. Has access to large grants. 5. Nina: Volunteer, knows lots of our recipients, passionate about BFR, provides incredible perspective, puts in lots of time; super quiet, will need space to speak up in the board meeting 6. Lisa: Incredible knowledge of business/ corporate level, consulting. Consulting work could be incredibly beneficial for the organization. Automatic power dynamic will be generated if she is on the board which is something we have to be super conscious about if we have quiet people/ less experienced people. Still want to challenge ideas. 7. Cha Cha: Awesome volunteer, great perspective if you know her 8. Stephen: would love to give him some other type of title but not a great candidate for the board Xavier: 1. Lisa sounds great, worried about different values 2. Wendy rocks- sounds awesome 3. Becky rocks- wonder about role on board 4. Nina rocks5. Ashley- seems young but good 6. Summer- don’t know 7. Cha Suze 1. Lisa - I want her to be my mentor 2. Wendy- lady after my own heart 3. Becky- need her perspective 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Nina- I know her and she is really passionate Summer- told her bad public speaking against her Ashley- she wants to fundraise! Stephen- maybe advisory board Cha- didn’t take it seriously Michael 1. Lisa sounds great, haven’t done anything that offends her yet 2. Cha cha is an awesome writer of LOE; Communications director - possible role - keep cha cha in consideration! 3. Wendy sounds great 4. Becky - like continuity of having a founding board member coming back, has institutional memory 5. Stephen- happy to eliminate 6. Summer, don’t know, not a lot of passion the way she stated 7. Ashley- like the EFAA connection; have more people involved from recipients **Ashley- fundraising, partner → unanimous yay **Becky- health, continuity, volunteer → unanimous yay Cha Cha - communications → some yay **Lisa- management, strategy, contacts → unanimous yay Nina- volunteer, community relations, communications → 2 yays Summer- BCPH, health, grant writing, → 3-4 yays **Wendy- data, food committees, grant writing, research → unanimous yay ChaCha: not on board Nina: Suze thinks Barbara will like Nina; Rhonda worries that because she lives with Hana that could be a thing; going into a leadership fellows → board votes yes! Summer → board votes yes Michael- nice to have overlap Board offers to 6 people: Ashley, Becky, Lisa, Nina, Summer, Wendy Board orientation after that What to do for first meeting → lots of board meetings; Thoughts on what we onboard them with. What should we do next. Will ask New Era if we can use their space for a meeting
