Director of Skill Development Job Description Mullett Ice Center o Responsibilities On ice director of Mullett Ice Center programs including Learn to Skate Learn to Play Hockey and other programs as assigned. Train staff required to assist with on ice programming. Communicates to customers in a timely manner via phone and email communication. On site for all registration dates to meet and greet customers and participants of Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey programs. Handle and resolve conflicts regarding Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey programs. Attend required staff meetings, training and seminars; maintain certifications. Remains knowledgeable of Mullett Center goals and objectives, rules, regulations, as well as policy and procedures. Attends pertinent association and community meetings including AYHA board, Wisconsin Armature Hockey Association, Mullett Board and other various meetings as required. o Reporting Structure Reports to the Ice Center Director Arrowhead Youth Hockey Association o Purpose of Position The AYHA Director of Skill Development (DOSD) will be responsible for providing clear goals and objectives for player skill development at the Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam levels. The DOSD will be expected to provide feedback to parents in respect to their sons/daughters hockey skill development. o Primary Responsibility Assist Coaches and AYHA Board in creating a fun culture for kids at the rink (this will include incorporating USA Hockey Principals into coaching and child development). Be the on-ice Lead for all AYHA power skating sessions prior to AYHA tryouts. Be the on-ice Lead for all AYHA Skill sessions prior to AYHA tryouts. Be an Evaluator for the selection of Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam teams. Aid in the selection of team sizes. Bring to the attention of the AYHA Board and ACE Coordinator any players that the DOSD feels should play-up. The DOSD plans, runs and executes all clinics with goalies and players before, during and after the hockey season. DOSD will evaluate practice sessions and provide feedback to both coaches and players. Once the practice schedule for the season has been scheduled, the DOSD and assigned AYHA Board Member(s)/ACE Coordinator will work in developing a skill development plan for each level for the coming season. The DOSD is expected to be on the ice during all scheduled assigned practices. Develops a year-round goalie clinic with well-respected goalie coach. The DOSD will ensure that AYHA is promoting age-specific skill development. Facilitates and runs coaching seminars with the assistance from the ACE Coordinator and assigned AYHA Board Members before, during and after the season. This will entail a session at the beginning of each season – Oct., a mid-season review in Dec/Jan timeframe and at the conclusion of each season, late March. Attends 1-2 games during the year to provide feedback to both coaches and players. DOSD is encouraged to visit the locker room both pre and post-game as well as being behind the bench. Attends all AYHA Board Meetings and provides update. Create and develop off-season programs, clinics, camps etc. that will enhance the development of player’s skills. Should there be a conflict of interest or per WIAA rules, the DOSD will work with the ACE Coordinator and AYHA Board in selecting a replacement. DOSD will have a Level 4 CEP Certification which will be paid for by AYHA. Should DOSD not have a Level 4 CEP, the DOSD needs to show progress each year in achieving. o Reporting Structure Reports to AYHA Board Member(s).
