First Drafting Workshop: Nomination Process of the Iraqi Marshlands as a Potential World Heritage Property 18-19 February 2012 Amman, Jordan Project: World Heritage inscription process as a tool to enhance natural and cultural management of the Iraqi Marshlands UNEP-UNESCO Objectives of Workshop 1. Introduce the two Iraqi thematic teams on nature and culture heritage to the concepts and process of the World Heritage Convention and the nomination process. 2. Identify the key structural elements of the nomination file (outstanding universal values, selection criteria, global comparative analysis, type of nomination (natural, cultural, mixed), conditions for integrity and authenticity, requirements for protection and management). 3. Review existing research on the site and identify research gaps that need to be filled to build a strong case for outstanding universal value. 4. Devise a national workplan and process framework and methodology for the preparation of the nomination file.
