Advanced Animal Science Instructor: Ms. Edwards Course: Advanced Animal Science Room: 8A Course Description: This course is designed to build on knowledge gained in prior animal agriculture classes covering such topics as animal reproduction, genetics, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, formulating feed rations, livestock handling, harvesting and marketing of livestock, and research in the field of animal agriculture. This course will count for the 4th year science credit. The TEKS set for this class require 40% of the class to be laboratory activities. This course will also require research, writing, and presentations which will help the students with their college readiness. Supplies: (1) Three Ring Binder (1) Composition Notebook Notebook paper Pens (blue or black ink) or pencils Grading Policy: Your assignments will be graded according to CHS policy. I will let you know if an assignment is a major, minor, or other grade. Major Grades = 60% Exams Major Projects Individual and minor projects Agriscience Fair Project Minor Grades = 40% Warm-Up Activities Lab Activities Daily and homework grades Participation Warm-Up Questions As you come into the room the question of the day will be posted on the board each day pertaining to something we have learned in class, or something you have learned in another class. You will record these questions and answers in your composition book as quickly as possible so we can begin our lesson for the day. On Fridays, you will turn in your warm-ups to be checked for a quiz grade. If you miss a warm-up due to absence or lateness, it is YOUR responsibility to get it from a classmate and have it completed by Friday. Agriscience Fair Project: Every student in this class will have an agriscience fair project. You will be given time in class to work on it. This is a Test Grade. Absent Work: All absent work will be kept in bins labeled for each subject. YOU are responsible for getting the work and turning it in to the late assignment bin. If you do not get your work, I will not have it for you. Any missed assignments must be made up within the time specified by the student handbook, or a grade of zero will be given. It is your responsibility to schedule a time to make up missed test and assignments. Expectations: I expect each of you to participate in all class activities and projects. I also expect each of you to come prepared with all your materials. This is an elective but we will do work every day.
