Re: Procedure for Career Preparation to BCIT for Foundation Trades Programs
BCIT is pleased to provide information about the Career Preparation application process into
Foundation programs for 2012. This procedure is only applicable for the Foundation programs and does not apply to any Technology Diploma or Degree Programs.
Career Preparation Eligibility:
This process is available for those high school applicants who are:
Currently attending grade 12
Currently taking or will be taking the required prerequisite entrance requirement courses for the Trades program they are applying to
Currently participating in a related Trades Career Preparation program
Most likely to complete and to graduate from their Career Preparation program with the grades required for admission to the BCIT Trades Program
Where there is a break in training between secondary school and applying to BCIT, individuals are not eligible to apply as Career Preparation applicants.
Applicants who do NOT meet the Career Preparation criteria can still be eligible to be considered for admission to BCIT trades programs; however, they will be considered as a regular applicant. They are required to meet the prerequisite entrance requirements for the program in order to be placed on the waitlist. The applicant will be given a waitlist date based on the date when all entrance requirements for the specific program have been met.
Application Deadline:
The deadline for application submissions is January 31, 2012. Career Preparation applications that are received after this date will not be given priority status and will be processed in the same manner as non-Career Preparation applicants.
Preferential Status:
The grade 12 high school Career Preparation applicants will be given “preferential standing” on the waitlist. All eligible Career Preparation applications will be processed with a waitlist date of November 1, 2011.

Re: Procedure for Career Preparation to BCIT for Foundation Programs
Admissions Process:
Eligible Career Preparation applicants will be offered provisional (conditional) acceptance to the BCIT Foundation Trades program when their names come to the top of the waitlist.
Full acceptance will be granted upon receipt of official notification of secondary school graduation, successful completion of Career Preparation program and completion of all the program entrance requirements with required minimum grades.
If a Career Preparation applicant does not achieve the BCIT program entrance requirements or does not successfully complete the Career Preparation criteria, his/her acceptance will be withdrawn. Career Preparation applicants are not eligible to achieve
BCIT entrance requirements through the BCIT Trades Admissions Assessment Test (Preentry test).
Intake Dates:
Some programs have very large waitlists with estimated waits of 1 to 3+ years.
Applicants who have met the Career Preparation requirements will remain on the waitlist until their name comes to the top of the waitlist and there is a seat available.
The first available intake for Career Preparation applicants will be the intake immediately following secondary school graduation in June 2012. This means BCIT trade programs starting in August or later. For the intakes that are full, Career
Preparation applicants will be offered a seat in a subsequent intake of their program as their name and waitlist date of November 1, 2011 reaches to the top of the waitlist.
Career Preparation applicants who are offered a seat in an intake cannot defer their start date to a later date. If the applicant chooses to defer their acceptance to a later date, they will be placed on the regular waitlist with a waitlist date of January 31, 2012.
