Donate Life Rose Parade® Float 2015 Rider Selection Guidelines The 2015 Donate Life Rose Parade Float will carry 30 Riders as it makes its five-mile journey down Colorado Blvd. on January 1, 2015. In order to appropriately represent the Donate Life community to the Rose Parade’s 800,000 spectators, 55 million U.S. television viewers, and tens of millions more worldwide, the Donate Life Float Committee aims to feature a Rider contingent that is balanced in terms of ethnicity, age and variety of stories. Personal Connection to Donation and Transplantation Donate Life Float Riders must be donor family members or recipients of organs, tissues or corneas who are at least 12 years of age on New Year’s Day 2015. If the selected Rider is a donor family member, they must be at least one year post-donation at the time they are chosen to participate. If the selected Rider is a donor family member, it is recommended they have at least some knowledge of the recipient(s) and how they have benefited from the donor's gifts. If the selected Rider is a recipient, it is recommended they have at least some knowledge of their donor and (if applicable) donor's family. The Donate Life Float will also feature 12 living donors as Walkers and honor 72 deceased donors of organ, eye and/or tissue as Floragraph Honorees. Physical Requirements Riding the float and participating in related activities is physically demanding. Riders must be able to handle a high level of physical activity, which includes the following: Walking distances of up to 1/2 mile, standing or sitting for long periods of time, and enduring cold temperatures. We recommend you consult your physician to ensure your health is not compromised by your participation. Speaking capably to the media and reporting to scheduled media opportunities on a timely basis. On occasion TV morning shows require reporting to the studio or locations at a very early hour. Departing the hotel at 5am the morning of the Parade for transport to the parade lineup area. From the time Riders are seated on the float, they must remain seated for approximately three hours until the float arrives in the Post-Parade off-loading area. Other Requirements Participate in an informational conference call the first week of December. Arrive in Pasadena by 3pm on Dec. 29 for a stay at the Sheraton Pasadena Hotel through Jan. 2. (Southern California Float Riders may depart on Jan. 1.) Participants may arrive earlier and stay later than these required dates. Participate in the Float Rider/Walker Dinner, Float Judging and the Rose Parade. Participation in other Donate Life events is optional. Parade Day Guidelines Unless the Rider’s sponsor or the Donate Life Float Committee requests specific attire, Riders may dress as they wish. If the Rider so wishes, he or she may carry an 8x10 framed photo (provided by the Float Committee) of their organ/tissue donor. Riders will be transported from the hotel to the parade formation area, then picked up after the parade and reunited with family and friends at the Post-Parade Lunch. continued > 221 South Figueroa Street, Suite 500 Los Angeles, CA 90012 (213) 229-5600 Fax (213) 633-1655 www.donatelifefloat.org RP36AR-042114 Donate Life Rose Parade® Float 2015 Float Rider Participation Guidelines (cont’d) Selection Timeline Date(s) Event Description Fri Aug 15 Float Participant Info Deadline Deadline to register float participants, submit bios and photos Mon Oct 20 Float Riders Unveiled Press release; see official website, www.DonateLifeFloat.org Travel Itinerary Mon Dec 29 Tue Dec 30 Wed Dec 31 Arrival Dedication Garden Rose Placement Float Rider/Walker Dinner Gala Dinner Float Judging 126th Rose Parade Thu Jan 1 Post-Parade Reception 101st Rose Bowl Game Departure Fri Jan 2 Hotel check-in at 3pm 10am–10pm, Phoenix Decorating Rosemont Pavilion (Roses placed by appointment) 5pm–8pm, Pasadena Convention Center Conference Center 6pm–11pm, Pasadena Convention Center Ballroom 2:30–4pm, Phoenix Decorating Rosemont Pavilion 5:40am: Float riders in hotel lobby for shuttle pickup 7am, Donate Life Grandstands open 8am–10:30am, Rose Parade 10:30am–1pm, Porto Alegre Brazilian Churrascaria at Paseo Colorado 2pm, Rose Bowl (Tickets must be purchased) Check out of hotel by 12pm Budget Guidelines Budget Item Airfare Hotel Meals Ground Transport Float Participant Dinner Gala Dinner Grandstand Seats Post-Parade Reception Estimated Total Description Round trip to/from Los Angeles or Burbank 4 room rights, double occupancy at Sheraton Pasadena Hotel Per day BUR or LAX to Sheraton Pasadena Hotel, one way via SuperShuttle (www.supershuttle.com) Pre-Parade Special Event, Dec 29 Pre-Parade Special Event, Dec 30 Donate Life grandstands at 235 W, 240 W or 300 E Colorado Blvd. Reception immediately following Rose Parade Amount Varies, $250 to $500 per person $1,300 $50 per person per day $25 per person, shared ride $25 per person $150 per person $75 for 300 E Colorado $100 for 235 W or 240 W Colorado $35 per person Approx. $2,500-$3,000 for two persons 221 South Figueroa Street, Suite 500 Los Angeles, CA 90012 (213) 229-5600 Fax (213) 633-1655 www.donatelifefloat.org RP36AR-042114 Participation of Family Members Float Riders may invite family members to participate in the various Donate Life float special events.
