Alfalfa Drama Script
Gulo comes and says greeting to Shairo, Gulo says:
Gulo: You are looking so bored, is everything right?
Shairo: That’s because I am jobless.
Gulo: But you have to be busy with something. Being jobless doesn’t have any profit.
Shairo: Yes it can’t give me benefits, but what can I do? I am setting here beside my land and I am
thinking what to grow in it. Last year I have even not got the fuel expenses with my farm’s products.
Gulo: That year is last now, but that time I told you that you have to grow plants with advice of
agriculture panelists but you said no I myself know about agriculture, so that time you got harms from
your farm. But this year grow Alfalfa in your farm, I am sure it can make you a lot of money.
Shairo: Ok you mean I should cultivate Alfalfa?
Gulo: Yes.
Shairo: But can Alfalfa farm make me the fuel expenses?
Gulo: Yes it can make you a lot of money. More money than fuel expenses.
Shairo: But how can I grow Alfalfa?
Gulo: Alafalfa is a LEGUME plant.
Shairo: I didn’t get what LEGUMME means.
Gulo: LEGUME are those plants which has Nitrogen in their roots and there are a lot of Bacteria in
mentioned Nitrogen, this Nitrogen is called Bixer Bacteria and they absorb Nitrogen from free air.
Shairo: I didn’t get this part; can you tell me what are the benefits of Nitrogen?
Gulo: Nitrogen is an element which is used more than any other elements in plants. And plants need
Nitrogen more than other elements.
Shairo: Can you explain it deeply?
Gulo: Nitrogen progresses the plants to growth and if there is lack of Nitrogen then plants would get
sick.
If we grow Alfalfa in our lands will be good because Alfalfa makes the soil strong.
Shairo: You mean it makes the soil powerful?
Gulo: Yes, as I told you grow Alfalfa in your land to make your land’s soil stronger and another thing is
that Alfalfa is a nice plant for crop rotation.
Shairo: Could you tell me what the crop rotation is?
Gulo: Crop rotation mean crops of one family should not be cultivated repeatedly in one land, we should
change the cultivation to another family’s crops.
Shairo: I didn’t get you. Why?
Gulo: Crops of one family needs the same elements from soil so if we grow crops of the same family
then the crops will face to lack of food and this is a kind of disease. Crops of one family also get the same
diseases so in repetition of growing one family’s crops the disease increases.
Crop rotation is a good method for controlling pests and diseases. Did you get it now?
Shairo: I got it a little bit but I have to listen to Afgha Azad Radio too to get more information about Crop
rotation.
Gulo: Alfalfa is improving soil, especially salty soils.
Shairo: But how?
Gulo: I mean first we should grow Alfalfa in our lands then we should grow other crops.
Shairo: Ok you mean if we grow Alfalfa first then we can grow other crops?
Gulo: Yes you are right.
Shairo: It is good that you are teaching me about these issues.
Gulo: I told you to grow something in your land, if you didn’t know about the crop which you want to
grow then you can ask me or you can listen to Afghan Azad Radio’s Sha Kasht Sha Hasil Program.
Shairo: Yes I am waiting to listen to that program, I got some of the information from you and I will get
some from Afghan Azad Radio.
OK Mr. Gulo, Could you tell me some other benefits of Alfalfa?
Gulo: You also know this that Alfalfa is good food for animals’ it could be used as animals’ food when
Alfalfa is fresh and also it could be used when it is dried.
Shairo: (smiles) it is like people say (One bullet and two goals). It means Alfalfa can serve our animals in
winter and also now.
Gulo: And one another thing, Alfalfa has concord we can grow Alfalfa in every kind of soils.
Shairo: Sometimes I don’t know what you say, can you please explain that what is concord?
Gulo: Concord means that we can grow Alfalfa in spring and also in fall season. Alfalfa can be cultivated
in every climate’s weather and in every kind of soil.
There are some crops that can be cultivated in Kandahar but could not be cultivated in other provinces
because of the difference in the weather.
Shairo: Alfalfa is one of good crops; you just pray for me that I do something.
Gulo: Ok I will pray for you but you have to work hard in your land and you have to listen to Sha Kasht
Sha Hasil program in Afghan Azad Radio.
Shairo: OK, whenever I get products of my alfalfa farm then I will give you a lot of alfalfa for you cow and
you have to give me Yogurt of your cow.
Gulo: Why not, we live in one village so we have to help each other.
And you know we can have bee in Alfalfa farm?
Shairo: How, How can we do that?
Gulo: It means bee can get their honey from Alfalfa.
Shairo: You mean Bees can get honey from Alfalfa too?
Gulo: Yes they can.
Shairo: So I can have two profits; one will be from Alfalfa and another will be from bees. Right now I am
going to tell my boys to clean the land from thorns and make the land ready for alfalfa farm.
Gulo: OK you do your works, I will go to district bazaar and learn something about agriculture from
panelists there. Good bye.
Shairo: Thanks a lot dear Gulo, You are helping our farmers, God may give you rewards of this.
