This individual serves a senior team member, directing technical support for day-to-day operations and individual projects related to the deployment, installation, monitoring and maintenance of complex Servers and Storage Area Networks (SANs) that provide consolidated services and storage to all Commonwealth agencies within the Enterprise Server Farm and related datacenters. Serve as technical lead for planning SAN requirements and processes for agency consolidations and DR implementations, including: Evaluation of storage and SAN connectivity requirements for agency IT consolidation projects, and providing appropriate storage technology, procurement and configuration recommendations. Planning processes for migration of agency data from agency storage to more robust centralized enterprise-class storage, or for relocation of agency storage systems as appropriate. Gathering replication requirements for DR implementations, including I/O throughput, storage, and recovery point objective requirements. Evaluation of Fiber-Channel SAN connectivity requirements for DR Implementations, and providing appropriate FC technology, procurement and configuration recommendations. Responsible for installation, configuration and support of SAN-Attached Storage Systems, including: Management of IBM mid- and enterprise-level storage controllers (DS3400, DS4200, DS4300, DS4500, DS4800, DS8100, DS8300, SVC, XIV) and expansion enclosures. Management of Storage Replication devices such as VPLEX. Management of Synchronous and Asynchronous Replication of data. Implementation of physical RAID-1/RAID-5/RAID-10 Storage Arrays. Provisioning of LUNs and assignment/LUN mappings to Host systems. Planning and implementation of Storage System firmware updates, including storage controllers, expansion enclosure ESM's, hard drives, and SAN Volume Controller code. Installation and maintenance of SAN and Storage Controller management servers and software. Planning and Implementation of Storage Virtualization using IBM SAN Volume Controllers (SVC's), including attachment of numerous Storage Subsystems, Host attachments and storage allocations/re-allocations, configuration of FlashCopy LUNs (point-in-time copies), and scripting of above functions. Planning and Implementation of data migrations from end-of-life Storage Systems to newer, more robust Enterprise-level storage. Planning and Implementation of inter-site data replication. Error and performance monitoring of Storage Systems, and performance of related troubleshooting and repair activities. Implementation and maintenance (updates) of consistent firmware and driver levels for host HBA's and multi-pathing Fiber-Channel drivers. Monitoring of storage space utilizations. Evaluation, planning and implementation of physical storage capacity expansions on all SAN-attached storage systems. Ensuring optimal configuration of SAN-attached storage, including drive loop and storage enclosure redundancy, cache settings, balancing of LUN-to-controller assignments and hotspare drive assignments. Maintaining comprehensive inventory and configuration backups of all storage systems, arrays, LUNs, and host-to-LUN mappings. Responsible for installation, configuration and support of Enterprise Fiber-Channel SAN switches, including: Management of Cisco Enterprise-level / IBM MDS9500 Director series Fiber-Channel switches. Implementation of redundant, high-availability FC fabrics. Evaluation of Fiber-Channel SAN connectivity requirements, and providing appropriate FC technology, procurement and configuration recommendations. Rack installation of Fiber-Channel switches and related FC cabling. Implementation of single-initiator Fiber-Channel Zoning to ensure isolation of Host-to-storage FC traffic. Planning and implementation of FC switch firmware and software updates. Planning and implementation of Fiber-Channel (FC) connectivity between sites, including Inter-VSAN Routing. Error and performance monitoring of SAN fabrics, and performance of related troubleshooting and repair activities. Maintaining comprehensive inventory and configuration backups of all FC switches and related Zoning. Hardware troubleshooting using OEM diagnostics software and utilities. Required knowledge and demonstrated skills with the following IT service disciplines: Change and configuration management Technical Documentation Inventory Management Service Level Management Performs other related duties as assigned to include those outlined in the CoG Plan when the Plan is activated.
