Kangaroo Math Competition: The Department of Mathematical Sciences at UNBSJ is pleased to announce the 2015 Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest has agreed to host the Canadian Kangaroo Math Contest for Grades 1-12 English and French. . The date of the competition is Sunday, March 29th. If anyone is interested please contact Dr. Mo Hamdam if you require more information. Mo is a father and Home and School member of Millidgeville North School and a contributor to our school community. Regional Coordinator: Dr. Mo Hamdan E-mail: hamdan@unb.ca Information and Timeline for the 2015 Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest Important Information for the 2015 Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest 1. Contest Date: March 29, 2015 (Sunday) 2. Time and Place: Tentative Start Time is 12:00 noon. To be held at UNB Saint John, Ganong Hall Lecture Theatre. Please plan to arrive by 11:30am. 3. Scope: There are six contest levels for Grades: 1-2; 3-4; 5-6; 7-8; 9-10; 11-12. You can choose French or English. 4. Contest Problems: a. Grade 1-2 solve 18 problems (3 difficulty levels) in 45 minutes. b. Grade 3-4 solve 24 problems (3 difficulty levels) in 60 minutes. c. Grade 5-12 solve 30 problems (3 difficulty levels) in 75 minutes. 5. Registration fee is $17. To register lease visit: http://www.mathkangaroocanada.com/ Registration is currently open and will close on March 15, 2015. 6. Twenty bursaries (or more if funds permit) of $17 will be given to cover the registration fee for 20 students. Application forms will be collected until February 20, 2015. The selection of recipients will be made by the Board of Directors based on the information in the application (financial situation, previous participation, etc.) and will be announced by February 27, 2015. The form is currently available at the administrator website, under the Documents/CMKCdocs folder. Participants will have access to the form. There will be both English and French online training sessions, each with five sections covering each grade level. These sessions will be repeated two weeks later, provided that there are enough registered participants. The online training is coordinated and organized nationally, and the registration for the sessions is administered through the central registration system. There is a fee of $10 per student to participate in the online training. The 2015 online training classes are scheduled as follows: In English for grades 1-8: February 28, repeated on March 7 and March 14, 2015 In English for grades 9-10: March 14, 2015 Focus on Fitness- Friday: Students participated in an introductory Yoga session with Jason McLean from Yogahaus. We will be offering a series of Yoga instructions during the month of February and March for students in all grades. http://yogahaus.ca/teachers/ TTFM: Tell Them For Me student Survey will be conducted with all students at MNS beginning Feb 16th. This is a provincial wide survey that is used to collect student feedback on school wide initiatives. Thanks are extended to Mr. Corey for leading the effort with this initiative. Teacher/ Staff Appreciation Week is Feb 9th14th Thank you very to our Home and School Committee for planning a week of staff appreciation next week. We truly appreciate our community support! MNS Home and School is pleased to announce we will be hosting a Community Market on Saturday, March 14th as a School Fundraising Event. The Market will be set up in the school Cafeteria and will have a variety of local vendors. Grade 6 Late FI Parent Information Session will take place on Tuesday February 17 at Princess Elizabeth School 6:30 PM. This session is for parents and students in Grade 5 English who may be interested in the Late French Immersion Program. Students in Grades 3-8 participated in an Internet Safety presentation at school today, facilitated by District Technoloogy Mentor, Philip Sweezey. Friday February 13th is District Professional Learning Day for all Teachers and Support Staff. There will be No School for students.
