PEDIATRIC MINDS EARLY CHILDHOOD TREATMENT CENTER Early Childhood Treatment Center # of Openings: 2 3524 Torrance Blvd, Suite 104 Torrance, CA 90503 (310) 540-1630 (310) 540-1610 fax LEVEL: ADVANCED PRACTICUM CONTACT: Janet Vivero, Ph.D. NATURE OF AGENCY/POPULATION SERVED The Early Childhood Treatment Center, a division of Pediatric Minds Medical Center, is a short-term integrated intensive day treatment program for young children ages 2 to 6 years who have autism, developmental disabilities, and behavioral disorders. This is a unique multi-disciplinary early intervention program that provides cognitive and developmental assessments for each child, an individualized intensive treatment program that is provided one on one, speech therapy and occupational therapy consults, psychological and medical evaluations and medication treatment if necessary. The program also provides daily parent meetings and weekly parent training to ensure the behavioral changes are being implemented and carried out at home as well. This is all provided in a family friendly setting. DIRECT SERVICES Students will be assigned to one of two rotations both of which will be completed either the first half or the second half of the training year. One of the rotations will consist of psychological and neurological assessment and the other, is as a face-to-face treatment extern working directly with children daily. The student will obtain supervision and training in assessment and in utilizing a number of intervention strategies (Play Therapy, ABA, Floor Time, Art Therapy, etc). Student will also participate in conducting intake sessions with parents, and weekly parent meetings. Family support groups and/or parent training is also a valuable component to our program. Students will eb challenged to approach their work (personally) with introspection, self-exploration and an understanding of the influences of culture on their own belief systems and worldviews. Interpersonal work is also emphasized as we encourage students to learn about and from other cultures, treatment modalities, etc. Exposure to diversity and interpersonal experiences both professionally and personally are fostered. INDIRECT SERVICES Daily treatment notes, weekly data summaries, parent meeting notes, and other necessary paperwork regarding his/her treatment case. PEDIATRIC MINDS EARLY CHILDHOOD TREATMENT CENTER - PAGE 2 INTERVENTION ORIENTATION As a multi-disciplinary intervention program, the student will be exposed to an array of intervention orientations including, Cognitive Behavioral Interventions, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Family Systems, Psychodynamic conceptualizations, and neurological perspectives provided by the MD.
