WHAT’S NEW AT THE UQL CYBERSCHOOL TERM 4, 2014 Welcome back to Term 4! 2014 Seminar Report Presenters Shirley Birrell and Sue Dalton from Marsden SHS On Friday 25th July, the Library held its 2014 Cyberschool Seminar at The Women's College. School principals, deputy principals, heads of departments, teacher-librarians and teachers were welcome to attend. This year's theme was Share and connect: people, libraries and technology. The seminar addressed the impact of emerging digital learning environments on teaching pedagogy and the library. Speakers included Karen Bonanno from Eduwebinar, Shirley Birrell (Teacher-librarian and President of the School Library Association of Queensland) and Sue Dalton (Acting Principal) from Marsden State High School, who together have created an award winning school library, and Margaret Warren, Coordinator of Discovery Services, State Library of Queensland. A number of database and eBook vendors also presented updates on their products. More than seventy people attended the seminar and feedback was overwhelmingly positive: "Great day… very topical and relevant." "An excellent day with some great presenters. Great wifi!" This would be valuable for History teachers and anyone with an interest in the war. Australian War Memorial As the commemoration of World War 1 begins, you might wish to explore the Australian War Memorial's site for a plethora of free resources that support the curriculum. Queensland Globe Queensland Globe is a mapping and data application that is implemented inside the Google Earth™ application. As an interactive online tool, Queensland Globe allows you to view and explore Queensland maps, imagery (including up-to-date satellite images) and other spatial data. QTopo QTopo is an online mapping tool which allows users to view and explore Queensland's topographic data. Includes contours, roads and tracks, property boundaries and GIS tools. QUEST QUEST is Cancer Council Queensland’s new FREE healthy lifestyle program for schools. The QUEST program is accessed through an online web portal where organisations can register, identify which health strategies they would like to introduce and track their progress.
