Approval will be subject to the University’s need to retain a workforce with the required qualifications, skills and experience to honour teaching and research commitments, to provide appropriate administrative and technical support, and to meet ongoing budgetary and financial obligations set by the University. 2. After considering the Estimate of Benefits, staff may express an interest in receiving an offer to accept a VSP. 3. In calculating VSP payments only employment service with Federation University counts (this includes immediate prior continuous service with FedUni predecessor institutions, specifically Monash University (Gippsland Campus). Note: As a general rule for VSP benefits, time fraction will be calculated on the staff member’s average fraction over his/her last five years of service or his/her fraction at the date of cessation of employment, whichever is the greater. It is not an average of time fractions over the entire period of employment. 4. An offer of a VSP will be provided under the following terms — The Estimate of Benefits is based on entitlements that are believed to be true and correct. The University reserves the right to correct (alter) any errors that may be detected. Leave entitlements are projected to the notional termination date. Any leave not yet processed will need to be deducted from the above entitlements prior to final payment. Expression of Interest Voluntary Separation Package 5. Any offer made will be at the sole discretion of Federation University. 6. Staff members offered a VSP (on either 21 or 22 January 2015) will be asked to confirm (by emailing to the director.hr@federation.edu.au) his/her acceptance or rejection of that offer by 5:00pm on 30 January 2015. 7. Staff will be under no obligation to accept a VSP offer. 8. The University is not giving financial advice in issuing this expression of interest and strongly encourages all staff to seek independent taxation and financial advice to ensure that their individual concerns are addressed regarding the impact of taxation legislation and rulings on their benefit payments. Terms and conditions In making this Expression of Interest for a Voluntary Separation Package, I acknowledge — 1. Separations will only be approved where the position held by the staff member can be declared excess to requirements and will not be replaced. Benefits payable on termination of employment, if the EOI is accepted and the position is declared redundant, will be calculated as described in the Voluntary Separation Package FAQs; 2. Re-employment on a permanent (continuing), fixed-term contract or casual basis by the University will not be permitted for a period of three years following cessation of employment; 3. At the time of approving the separation, there can be no agreement in relation to future re-employment with the University; 4. Where an EOI is approved, employment ends on a date determined by the University, but will be no later than 13 February 2015; 5. EOIs for the VSP are non-binding on the University. There is no obligation on the University to approve voluntary separations for employees who submit an EOI; 6. And agree to sign a Deed of Release (a draft of which is available at http://federation.edu.au/staff/working-at-feduni/humanresources/gippsland-staff-only); 7. That once I accept an offer of voluntary separation and sign a Deed of Release, I am bound to depart under the terms of that offer; 8. That the University reserves the right to make an offer as detailed in the Consultation Paper – Gippsland Campus, or to withdraw such an offer prior to my acceptance; and 9. That I am under no obligation to accept an offer of voluntary separation from the University.
