POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - Grand Valley State University Position Title: Associate Director, Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy Required Qualifications and Education: The Associate Director of the Johnson Center will have demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team to develop and implement sophisticated and effective strategic and business plans; successful nonprofit senior management skills such as fund-raising and project management; thorough understanding of history, legal framework, and ongoing issues in the foundation and nonprofit sector; practical experience in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors; exceptional communication skills, both written and oral; and diplomatic skills needed to effectively work with a wide array of internal and external constituencies. The Associate Director position requires three to five years’ experience in senior leadership positions in nonprofit or grantmaking foundation organizations with demonstrated success in managing complex relationships with a proven track record in fund-raising. A master’s degree is required and a Ph.D. is preferred. Responsibilities – Essential Functions: In this role, the Associate Director will support the creation of strategy and budget for the Johnson Center and its programs; establish and maintain relationships with community, local, state and national foundations and organizations; raise ongoing philanthropic support and maintain relationships with foundation and corporate partners; and represent the Johnson Center at various university and community events and with the media. As a member of the Johnson Center’s leadership team, the Associate Director will prepare and present proposals for support; participate as a lead strategist in a center-wide development process to secure support for Johnson Center’s priorities and actively build relationships through stewardship to encourage continued as well as increased gifts from key stakeholders.
