Module 7
Christmas
Story 1
Joseph’s story
This section contains

ideas for an angel costume made in Year 1

a number of ideas for conveying animals such as camels and donkeys
Angel costume
Look at the website resources pages for Year 1 Story 1 A Christmas Story for
detailed instructions on making an angel costume – this photo will remind you what
the costume looks like.
Animal masks
In year 1 we suggested a number of different ways of conveying the camels, donkey
and other animals you might need in this story. For ideas on camels refer to Year 1
Story 18 The Master Resources page Animal Masks includes a template and
instructions on making an easy head mask (which fits on the head like a hat not on
the face). All of these ideas are easily transferable to different kinds of animals that
you might want to include in your Christmas assembly.

Story 2
The Shepherds’ Story
This section contains

Instructions for making the plaited headbands referred to, Basic Kit – Men
Headbands
Headscarves will instantly convey “shepherds” to your audience – but they
can prove difficult to keep on, and distracting if children wearing them are
constantly tugging at them.

Here genuine keffiyahs are used as they drape easily. However, other soft scarves
work as well. Using a teatowel (especially a new thick one) is harder to keep on –
and a wellmade stretchy headband can help a lot. Its also great for adjusting for
children sized heads!
Instructions

Cut 3 legs from tights. Cut off toes. Knot the legs together and then plait (not
too loosely) to the end.

Holding the ends carefully, undo the first knot and knot the ends of the plait
together firmly. A reef knot works well.

Create a small tassel by allowing the ends of hang free unplaited – this can be
as long as your stockings allow.

Note the effect of different shades of stockings!
