CLASS TITLE: SENIOR PHARMACIST
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is pharmaceutical work in one of the following areas: (1) administering the operations of a pharmacy; (2) preparing new drug evaluations; (3) requisitioning, distributing, and dispensing drugs for all county health departments in the state; (4) providing program consultation in the interpretation, development and improvement of medicare and medicaid standards and state licensure requirements to pharmaceutical and allied health organizations; (5) serving as the primary assistant in all operations to a pharmacy manager; (6) serving as a program consultant to the medicare/medicaid hospital units;
(7) planning, coordinating, and implementing program development functions for the Prescribed
Medicine Program; or (8) providing consultation, technical assistance and training for the Department of Business and Professional Regulation's drug enforcement and pharmacy inspection programs and providing expertise in evaluating drug delivery systems.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Administers a drug information, disease assessment and medications management program.
Administers and participates in the compounding and dispensing of pharmaceutical drugs and supplies.
Assists in developing and implementing pharmacy policies, methods, and procedures.
Trains pharmacists and pharmacy assistants in the methods and procedures of manufacturing, compounding, and dispensing pharmaceutical drugs.
Develops, implements, and monitors a perpetual inventory control system for all pharmacy drugs and materials.
Prepares written specifications as to quantity and source for the purchasing of all drugs, chemicals, antibiotics, and biological and pharmaceutical preparations used in the treatment of patients.
Consults with physicians, nurses, and hospital personnel in evaluating the methods, procedures, and services of the pharmacy, and prepares recommendations to the hospital director.

Participates in staff meetings and conferences.
Develops program policy, manuals and administrative rules.
Develops and implements program monitoring methodologies, techniques and plans; designs, implements and monitors program corrective action plans.
Evaluates drug therapy with respect to diagnosis, drug dispensing patterns to a given patient population, generic and brand name substitution patterns, and observation of cost limits customary charge regulations.
Serves as liaison with the Florida Pharmaceutical Association in peer review activities.
Consults with health care administrators, physicians, nurses, and others concerning medication and pharmaceutical services standards related to licensure.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy.
Knowledge of drug properties and usage including the effects of drug interactions.
Ability to administer a pharmacy or a section of a pharmacy.
Ability to compound and dispense pharmaceutical drugs, medications, and supplies.
Ability to formulate and implement pharmacy policies, methods, specifications and procedures.
Ability to provide training to staff members.
Ability to evaluate drug therapy against set criteria.
Ability to develop program policy manuals, rules and program monitoring methodologies, techniques and plans.
Ability to develop and maintain a perpetual inventory control system.

Ability to monitor and coordinate clinical pharmacy services such as drug information, disease assessment, and medications management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure as a Pharmacist in accordance with Florida Statute 465 and one year of professional experience in the practice of pharmacy.
A master's degree from an accredited college or university in pharmacy can substitute for the required experience.
A Pharm.D. from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.
A doctorate from an accredited college or university in pharmacy can substitute for the required experience.
