Role
Job Purpose
Study and Duty Supervisor: Junior School -
To supervise students who are without their teacher and support their learning; to assist with duties at other times.
Accountable to: 1. Junior School Deputy Head
Accountabilities 1. Teaching and learning a) Ensure all students are appropriately supported in their learning by ensuring the working environment is appropriate and purposeful in classes being supervised. b) Take the electronic class register on SIMS when required and follow up unexplained absences with form tutors and/or subject staff. c) Encourage and support the learning of students by implementing appropriate resources for lessons as directed by the teacher. d) Accompany teachers and students on educational visits as required and engage in the learning process for the benefit of the students. e) Liaise with the teacher in order to ensure the effective delivery of the curriculum for all students and to help raise standards of achievement. f) Contribute to discussions with teachers on the development of work and support programmes for students, in order to support learning and/or behaviour. g) Assist teachers in the supervision of girls during afterschool late-prep.

2. Pastoral care a) Liaise with teachers and Junior School Leadership Team on the implementation of appropriate strategies to ensure that all students are supported pastorally. b) Promote and model positive behaviour throughout the school. c) Uphold the Code of Conduct through effective delivery of its aims. d) Provide pastoral/welfare support for all students in order to encourage their social and emotional stability and development. e) Assist with the supervision of students on the playgrounds and in the dining hall. f) Administer First Aid if required and deputise for the
School Nurse where appropriate and safe.
3. Management of Resources a) Ensure that classroom resources are maintained effectively and available as required. b) Ensuring that Junior School library resources are accessible and stored correctly as required. c) Assist in the preparation and creation of attractive and interactive learning displays. d) Assist teachers in the preparation of work and activities in advance of the lesson (within employed hours where appropriate), to ensure that the learning resources required are effective and accessible in order to achieve the learning outcomes.
4. Communications a) Where appropriate, develop a relationship to foster links between home and school, and to keep the school fully informed of relevant information. b) Be aware of confidential issues linked to home /student c) Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet the needs effectively of all students.

General requirements d) Communicate concerns and observations to the relevant person regarding Health & Safety and safeguarding issues to maintain the school’s duty of care.
5. Training & development of self and others a) Where appropriate, to assist in the induction, deve lopment and support of other SDS’s in their roles. b) Participate in training activities and sessions offered by the school/Trust and other external agencies in order to further relevant knowledge and skills.
