St George’s School for Girls Edinburgh GSA Independent 800 Girls 2-18 TEACHER OF PRIMARY EDUCATION Background to Junior School and Nursery 1. St George’s School for Girls, Edinburgh, has 800 students aged 2-18 years. It was founded in 1888, and its fundamental aim is to provide an excellent education for girls. Our academic results are outstanding and approximately 97% of our students go on to university. We are a girls’ school and we accept boys who have sisters here, but only in the Nursery. 2. The Junior School is on the main school site, in a purpose-built modern building with its own play areas. Pupils also take advantage of the facilities of the whole school, such as the Sports Centre, sports fields, and the Music Centre. The Junior School has 150 girls from Primary 1 to Primary 5. There are 2 classes in each year group, Primary 1 to Primary 5, and classes vary in size from 13-19. Class teachers are supported by classroom assistants. Primary 6 is also part of the girls’ primary education and is based in the Lower School Campus. There are about 19 in each of the Primary 6 classes. Primary 7 is the first year of secondary education, and is also part of our Lower School in a year group called Remove. 3. We promote and support the development of each of our pupils through a wellbalanced and well-resourced curriculum which incorporates some of the experiences and outcomes of a Curriculum for Excellence. Pupils receive specialist teaching from teachers in Art, Music, Physical Education and Modern Languages. We have a full programme of extra-curricular activities in the Junior School (Primary) to which all teaching staff are expected to contribute. Job Particulars 1. We have a vacancy for a temporary full-time Teacher of Primary to cover a maternity leave. The successful applicant must be prepared to work as part of a team, promoting and supporting the personal and academic development of pupils and developing our partnership with parents, with a firm commitment to teaching as a profession. The Junior School and Year 6 are very much part of the whole school. Staff throughout the school are in regular contact to ensure continuity of provision and smooth progression, especially at transition stages, throughout the school. 3.
