John Colvin Memorial Scholarship Application Instructions Basic Eligibility Criteria Must be accepted or enrolled in one of the fifteen colleges or universities with a presence in Irvine, CA. (master list below) Must be engaged in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree. Must present documentation of involvement in organized health, fitness or competitive athletic events or activities or demonstrate a lifestyle commitment to fitness – cycling, swimming, jogging, running, aerobics, individual or organized sports. Must have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher. Must be a California resident with the objective of contributing to the health and economic vitality of Irvine and California in the future. Selection Criteria Applicants will be evaluated employing the weighting formula on the following criteria: 25 25 10 20 5 10 5 - Financial need associated with pursuit of a degree (how the student intends to fund college) - Academic achievement - Evidence of commitment to chosen field - Demonstrated commitment to fitness, healthy lifestyle and competitive spirit - Internships related to chosen field - Community service, volunteer activities - Recommendations Application Process Complete and return the application. Attach a brief summary of their current status, career and life goals and aspirations. Include a copy of your high school or college transcript. Three letters of recommendation: one teacher or professor acquainted with your academic work; one from an adult acquainted with your fitness, healthy lifestyle activities and one from an adult associated with your community service and activities. Submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words which defines the reasons for your course study and degree pursuit as it directly relates to your community service, dedication to fitness and athletic endeavors and the influence of family on your life.
