Sixth Sunday After Pentecost
Rev. Michelle Townsend de López, Presiding & Preaching
(Silence is kept for reflection.)
P:
Before God and in the company of our sisters and brothers, let us confess our sin.
God and Father of all,
C:
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. We have
thought better of ourselves than others. We have told lies, said hurtful things, acted in
ways we wish we could take back, and looked the other way when action was needed. In
your mercy, O God, forgive us, cleanse us, and heal us, for the sake of Jesus, our Savior.
Amen.
Please put your cell phone on vibrate or turn it off before the service begins.
Introduction
Jesus does great deeds of power and gives his disciples authority over demons. Yet none of
this power is unilateral; it all must be received by faith. Jesus asks his disciples to go out
without money or supplies, so that they will be dependent on how others receive them. When
we are sent from the assembly to witness and to heal, we are asked to be vulnerable, to be
dependent on the reception of others. The Spirit always operates in the between: between
Jesus and his Abba, between Jesus and us, between you and me, between us and those to
whom we are sent.
The Elders serving today are Craig Dent, Tracy
Harris and Deanna Riley-Willliams.

CALL TO WORSHIP
E:
You are the God of all nations.
C:
We give You thanks and praise for who we have become in You.
E:
You are the God of all peoples.
C:
We welcome all in the name of Christ who first welcomed us.
E:
You are the God of all things.
C:
Nations rise and nations fall, but You are the same God yesterday, today, and
forever.
All: We come together to worship You. Amen.
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism, as the presiding
minister begins.
P:
Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, creator of wind and rain, field and ocean, the
bread of life coming down from above, the power at work within us and this world.
C:
Amen.
P:
If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away;
everything has become new! In Christ, + you are a new creation: your sins are taken
away and you are made new. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.
C:
Amen.
GREETING
P:
The Lord has Risen!
C:
He has risen indeed! Alleluia. Alleluia!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
P:
Almighty God,
C:
You created us and the world we live in without borders and boundaries. You
created all of us in Your image. All of us are Your beloved children. Help us to
see our kindred in the world. Help us to tear down the walls and build bridges.
Call upon us to cross the borders that we have placed and share Your love by
caring for the needs of all. May we remember that You have welcomed us first,
and so we ought to welcome one another in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places
give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God. You reveal your glory as
the glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit equal in majesty, undivided in
splendor, one Lord, one God, ever to be adored in your eternal glory. And so with all
the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your
name and we lift our voices to say . . .
SANCTUS
C:

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna. Hosanna. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest!

broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for
you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave
thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my
blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the
remembrance of me.
C:
Amen.
