Students are introduced to the legal profession, legal ethics, 1 sources of law, an overview of the U.S. court system, alternate dispute resolution systems, various substantive and procedural areas of the law, and analyzing an application of law to factual circumstances. Reading & Study Skills Services in the CAS Title : Cathy Gann, Director Additional information : The CAS offers reading and study skills services for all MWSU students. Study strategies are offered that enable students to manage time effectively, take better notes, understand and recall information more reliably, control test anxiety and better prepare for course exams. Reading help is available to improve vocabulary and complexity of the reading they must do in their classes. Students can schedule appointments on Monday-Thursday (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) and Friday (8 a.m. - 3 p.m.) MWSU Attendance Policy 4 An online course is considered as "meeting" at least once a week. Students are required to “attend” class through communication or submission of some work at a minimum every 7 days. Students who do not communicate or submit work for one full week (that is, for one 7-day period) will be counted as an unexcused absence for that week. Any excused absences are at the complete discretion of the instructor. School Cancellation Policies Missouri Western State University will close only in extraordinary circumstances. If the University is to close due to weather/road conditions, the decision will be made as follows: Daytime Closing – normally the decision will be made by 6:00 a.m. Evening Closing – normally the decision will be made by 4:00 p.m. Any closing of the University will be broadcast on the following stations: KCMO Radio (81 AM, and 95 FM), KKJO Radio (105.5 FM), KFEQ Radio (68 AM), KSJQ Radio (92.7), WDAF Television (Channel 4), KQ2 Television (Channel 2). If closings are not reported on the aforementioned stations, it should be assumed the University is open. It should be noted the University Administration will take several factors into consideration when making the decision to close the University due to weather/road conditions. Therefore, it cannot be assumed the University will close when area schools are closed. Notification will also be posted on Missouri Western’s web page. Grade Appeal Process Additional information: Students are responsible for meeting the standards for academic performance established for each course in which they are enrolled.
