The UCSF Fresno Surgical Critical Care Program is accepting applications for 2014-2015. This is a
one-year ACGME fully accredited Critical Care Fellowship based at Community Regional Medical
Center in Fresno, California and affiliated with UC San Francisco.
Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is the only Level I Trauma Center serving California’s
Central Valley with a population of 2 million. CRMC is 1 of only 13 Level I Trauma Centers in the state of
California. The trauma service is very active, admitting more than 3,200 trauma patients per year (80%
blunt, 20% penetrating), one of the busiest in California with approximately 20% of these requiring ICU
admission. CRMC is a 650 bed facility and also contains the regions only comprehensive burns center as
well as 66 ICU beds.
The surgical faculty for the fellowship includes 9 critical-care board-certified surgeons active in all aspects
of critical care and trauma. The goal of this fellowship is to produce skilled, competent surgeons capable
of dealing with complex critical care and trauma problems, and prepared for leadership roles in ICU
management and trauma system administration. Rotations include: Surgical Intensive Care Unit Trauma
Intensive Care Unit, Burn Unit, Cardiovascular, Medical Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Critical Care Unit
(Children Hospital Central California).
Fresno is the fifth largest city in the state of California, one of 15 cities in the county which makes a
perfect destination for you to enjoy big city amenities with small town charm. With three world renowned
National Parks, Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon only an hour in a half driving distance. Fresno is
centrally located, with an approximate three hour drive to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Monterey
Peninsula and the central coast region around Morro Bay. Salary and benefits are competitive.
Applicants must be Board Eligible in general surgery and able to qualify for a California Medical License.
Funding is available for attendance at national and state conferences as well as for travel to a meeting for
presentation of original work.
To be considered for an interview, a completed application must be received as well as a letter of
recommendation from the Program Director, and two letters of recommendation from people who can
address academic and clinical performance. After reviewing these applications, candidates will be
contacted and arrangements made for an interview.
