Human Resources Training 2015
The following is a list of professional development training opportunities for the 2015 calendar year.
These trainings are subject to change.
January
January 20th and 27th Supervisory Training
This training will include familiarizing managers with the EAP and how employees can access the
services. This training will also include: How to reduce your stress as managers, How to use the EAP as a
management tool, Five Steps to effective management (Recognition, Documentation, Action, Referral,
and Reintegration),Barriers to Confronting an Employee, and Enabling.
February
February 11th 1:30 -3:00 and 17th 9:30- 11:00 133 East Area Locker Room Harassment Training 1.5 hours
This program provides basic guidelines for understanding and preventing sexual harassment
in the workplace. Information regarding the legal basis for sexual harassment as well as PSU policies
and procedures will be discussed. Case studies are included for participants to assess, discuss, and
identify resolutions for potential sexual harassment situations in higher education. This program will
help participants to:
• Define sexual harassment
• Understand the legal and procedural process for sexual harassment situations
• Identify appropriate steps to be taken to help prevent, report, and resolve sexual harassment
issues
February 18th 9-10:30am and 24th 2-3:30 Room E BJC Wage Process I-9 Training
The training will educate employees that are involved in the hiring process on the new wage payroll
process.
March
March 20th 10:00-12:00 and 25th 9:00-11:00 Diversity Training 2 hours
Subtle Slights: Understanding the Impact of Unconscious Bias and Microaggressions
How do we handle the unspoken, often unrecognized "little things" that foster sentiments and attitudes
of inequity and incivility? Microagressions speak to the attitudes, dispositions, and comments that many
times lead to the devaluing of members of a community. This session will focus on recognizing,
validating, and ultimately managing the display and impact of unconscious bias and microaggressions.
Objectives



Consider and understand the impact of personal perceptions and individual lenses.
Define and identify types of microaggressions.
Develop strategies and resources to remedy instances of potential or perceived incivility.

Dates and times coming soon Workplace Civility Training 2 hours
This program is designed to address the many ways in which workplace climates either promote
organizational success or contribute to decreases in both morale and productivity. Participants will be
expected to individually assess how their own actions and attitudes impact this process, while working
with others to develop strategies aimed at improving the workplace climate in general.
Objectives



Recognize how specific behaviors serve as barriers to organizational goals.
Identify specific warning signs that signal the need for organizational change.
Identify effective strategies to address issues that arise in a way that promotes mutual
respect and support.

Ethics Training
This is informal and interactive workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to engage in an
open dialogue with departmental colleagues, outside of the office environment.
June
Dates and times TBD Employee Relations-Handling Performance Related Conversations
This program will enable you to effectively conduct performance related conversations by
exploring the University policy on performance and to provide resources to address issues or concern.
This program will also help to:





Understand the role of Employee Relations and Its HR
Increase awareness of importance of promptly addressing performance issues
Understand how to structure performance conversations
Apply policy HR 78-Staff Failure to Meet Acceptable Performance
Recognize the importance of good documentation

This program will talk about what the differences are between FMLA and Workers Compensation
claims and how to handle them regarding process and procedures.
