The notebook must consist of 15 tree species and 5 shrub/vine species. A list of suggested species is attached to the rubric. Many of these species are found on campus and will be picked up during our class. Bonus points may be given for up to 10 extra species for a total of 5 points per species. Bonus specimens must be a tree, shrub or vine. No grasses or flowers. Your notebook will be graded for 20 SAE Hours upon the following rubric: 25 Points 50 Points 75 Points Completion ≤ 5 species ≤ 10 species ≤ 12 species or not appropriate # of trees & shrubs/vines Accuracy ≤ 5 species identified and labeled correctly ≤ 10 species identified and labeled correctly ≤ 12 species identified and labeled correctly Neatness Specimens are not dry and are poorly arranged. Majority of specimens are still wet/have moisture. Cluttered arrangement. Some specimens are still wet/have moisture. Neatly arranged. Layout Does not contain Table of Contents, pages are not numbered or alphabetical. Plants are out of order and not numbered. Plants are out of order but are numbered. Table of contents is not present. Student is completely unfamiliar w/ collected specimens. Student does not understand groups of plants but can discuss collection methods/experiences with some specimens collected. Student understands groups of plants but not w/ scientific nomenclature. Student has difficulty discussing several of the specimens. Interview Notes: 100 Points ≥15 species represented. 25 trees & 5 shrubs/vines. ≥15 species identified and labeled correctly Perfectly preserved specimens, neatly arranged and appealing to the eye. Plants are arranged alphabetically by family, genus and species, pages numbered and table of contents is present.
