Scholar and Associate Scholar Application Form
Application Guidelines
This guideline is designed to help you complete your application for an NSSP Scholar or
Associate Scholar designation at UNM.
1. Fill out this application and return or mail it to:

2. Please include a copy of your current unofficial university transcript with this application.
3. Please provide the contact information of one academic reference on your application, one
preferably from the NSSP Advisory Committee (committee list is attached with this application).
4. Please provide a brief resume that lists scholarships, awards, and honors; community service;
and employment history.
5. A personal interview will be required. Applicants will be contacted to set up a date and time to
meet with NSSP personnel.
6. The NSSP will appoint you as either a Scholar or Associate Scholar.
Admission as an NSSP Scholar or Associate Scholar
Acceptance will be based on all of the following competitive factors:
1. NSSP Scholar/ Associate Scholar acceptance requires active enrollment in an NSSP special
topics course or in NSSP recommended courses at UNM.
2. GPA/Academic Achievement: A 3.0 GPA is required for both designations. Forty-five
completed credit hours are required for the Scholar designation. Fifteen completed credit hours
are required for Associate Scholar designation. Please contact Matthew Baca at baca@unm.edu
if special circumstances need be considered.
3. American citizenship is required.
