The HBO has recently been created to represent home buyers. This includes both first time buyers and those already on the property ladder. Although your organisation is sympathetic to environmental concerns its major focus in on the supply and affordability of homes and representing buyers views to the Government and Local Authorities. You have decided to engage with the development of the Government’s Code for Sustainable Homes which is intended to curb CO2 emissions and promote the development of more sustainable homes. TASK 1 At the end of this group work you will have 2 minutes to feedback to the class. Your first task is to assign someone to capture the group’s ideas and to provide feedback at the end of the group work session. TASK 2 Your objective is to create a framework for a ‘Code for Sustainable Homes’ policy. You may use your imagination and be as creative as you like but you must include the following information: a) The key priorities relating to the Code from the perspective home buyers/owners. b) The areas in which performance specification will be set out or specific approaches mandated in your Code. c) Are there any other key features to your Code? Remember that the goal of the Code is to reduce the carbon emissions from new homes. Note: This work is NOT assessed and does not contribute to your module mark. Dr Tim Lees October 2011
