Drew Winter 2014
Mondays:
Art (PreK-5th): Students will learn drawing, painting sculpting, and 3D design. They will
develop confidence in their creative abilities and create unique projects in group setting as well
as individually. All supplies included.
Nerf Fencing (K-5th): Fencing is separated into two age groups. All students will learn basic
concepts of fencing. Students will use nerf foam sabers, wear fencing equipment, and can build
on their experience from prior sessions.
Tuesdays:
Knitting (1st-5th): This class is for both experienced knitters and beginner knitters. We will
learn how to cast on and off, knit and purl and read simple knitting patterns. We will finish at
least one project—more if the students actually knit during the week.
Tae Kwon Do (PreK-5th): At Nur Martial Arts, we strive to develop each student’s natural
inclination towards order, discipline, balance, and beauty. Our After-School TKD program
emphasizes physical exercise, motor skill development, Tae Kwon Do curriculum, and life skills
training. Mr. Ahmad and his team of Black-Belt instructors work to establish discipline through
the two fundamental Martial Arts training principles of attention and respect. Students are also
rewarded with stripes for turning in notes from home explaining good behavior, good school
work, and helping the environment. Uniform and belts are provided free of charge.
Mandarin Chinese (K-2nd): Students will learn basic Chinese conversational skills, such as
greetings, household items, and more.
Wednesdays:
Chess(1st-5th): Chess is much more than a game; it can become a passion that lasts a lifetime. The class
is geared toward lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced play. Chess
supplies provided.
Gymnastics(PreK-2nd): Students will learn the fundamentals of gymnastics in a positive, fun,
and nonā€competitive environment. Please have children dress in comfortable clothing without
excessive buttons, snaps, or zippers and secure athletic shoes.
Robotics 101 (2nd-5th): Ready to begin exploring the wonders of the field of Robotics? This
Introduction to Robotics will teach students through hands-on learning about its three main
fields. We will use robots and various pieces that go into robots to build a solid foundation of
understanding in robotics. Students will have class introductions to programming, the various
motors that can be used, common sensors, and robots on other planets.
Competitive Robotics (Grade 3-5) This robotics class introduces students to competitive
robotics. However, all students with a strong interest in robotics and legos are welcome to join
the class. Class activities include races, obstacle courses, mazes, and combat. Small teams of
students compete with other teams to design, build, program and "coach" the winning Lego
Mindstorms NXT robot for each event.
Thursdays:
Gymnastics II (3rd-5th): This class is geared toward both beginning students and those who
want more experience. Participants learn the fundamentals with an emphasis on progressions
and get introduced to basic skills on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Secret Agent Lab(1st-5th): Calling all undercover agents! We are looking to form an elite team
of spies. Mystery, illusion and technology are our tools to travel around the world to fulfill a
secret mission. Explore electronics, lasers, DNA global tracking, fingerprinting and chemical
reactions, as you train to become a spy.
WeDo Robotics (K-2nd): This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using Lego WeDo
robotics. Students will build various wild animals, amazing mechanisms, soccer-themed
gadgets, and learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer.
