The Lord’s Prayer Collections for the week of August 30, 2015 $637.14 US $380.85 CDN A Prayer for a Dream Father, Once I had such big dreams, so much anticipation of the future. Now no shimmering horizon beckons me: my days are lack-luster I see so little of lasting value in the daily round. Where is your plan for my life? You have told us that without vision, we perish. So, Father in heaven, knowing that I can ask You to deposit in my mind and heart that particular dream, the special vision You have for my life. And along with the dream, will You give me whatever graces, patience, and stamina it takes to see the dream through to fruition? I sense that may involve adventures I have not bargained for. But I want to trust You enough to follow even if you lead along new paths. I admit to liking some of my ruts. But I know that habit patterns that seem cozy nests from the inside, from Your vantage point may be prison cells. Lord, if you break down any prisons of mine before I can see the stars and catch the vision, then, Lord, begin the process now. In joyous expectation. Amen. -by Catherine Marshall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Prayer for Grandparents. (on Grandparents’ day September 13, 2015) Dear St. Ann, You were truly twice blessed to have our blessed Mother as your daughter and Jesus our Savior as your grandson. I know that every period of our lives has its responsibilities as well as its joys. Today, it seems that grandparents have either too little use or too much; either we are shunted aside to do nothing, or we are called upon to do everything. Help me to know just where my duties lie in my particular situation and to carry them out as best I can. Take care of my family, my children, and their children. Inspire them all to follow your Grandson and lead truly Christian lives. Keep all of us in your loving care, never let us turn away from Jesus, And help us in the end to receive the joy of entering into your Grandsons' glorious presence forever. Good St. Ann pray for us grandparents. Amen. But what is faith? Is it nothing more than believing in an idea? Peter says that Jesus is the Christ, but when Jesus teaches that he must suffer and be put to death, Peter rejects this. Peter is looking for a winner. Jesus sounds like a loser to Peter, so Peter must make Jesus into his understanding of a winner. Like Peter, how often do we try to make over Jesus into our image? Often we try to make Jesus into someone we think he should be instead of taking Jesus for who he is. The way of Jesus is to lose yourself, to let go and be in God. Belief in God is more than assent to abstract concepts. It is a relationship with someone and in relationships, we have to give something of ourselves to grow with the other. Saint James tells us that faith alone will not save anyone, but faith has to be manifest in relationships. Pope Francis reminds us time and again that relationships are the key to a life of faith. Doctrine without people at its heart is not good teaching. As we prepare to celebrate the Eucharist today, let us ask for the courage to accept Jesus as he is and not as we want him to be. Anthony Chezzi, Sudbury, ON. A Prayer for Healing a Loved One All our times are in Thy hand. All diseases come at Thy call, and go at Thy bidding. Thou redeemest our life from destruction, and crownest us with loving kindness and tender mercies. We bless Thee, that Thou hast heard prayer, and commanded deliverances for our friend and Thy servant, who has been under Thine afflicting hand. He (or she) was brought low, but Thou hast helped him (her). May he (she) not only live, but declare the works of the Lord! As Thou hast delivered his eyes from tears, his feet from falling, and his soul from death, may he daily inquire: What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits towards me, and resolve to offer unto Thee the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and to call upon the name of the Lord. May we ever remember that recovery is only a reprieve and that some day we will go to our rest in the Lord. May we therefore secure the righteous path and live with eternity ever in our view. We entrust to You, all our loved ones who are suffering today -- those in hospitals, addiction centers, and nursing homes -- those undergoing surgery or treatments. We pray especially for Wayne McDonald, Margie Thompson, Henry Arquette, Sandra Terrance, John Bigtree, Laurie Connors, Francis Cree, Carl Bero, Mae Tarbell, Debbie Bero, Philip Francis, Antoine Delormier, Norris Thompson, Alex Arquette, Clyde Cree, Abigail Taylor, John Mitchell, Art Tarbell, Barbara Green, and Deacon Ron Boyer.
