We want to welcome you to another exciting year at AMES. We look forward to continuing the legacy of AMES
through our teaching and learning, the relationships we form, friendships that are made and the ongoing
excellence demonstrated by our graduates. This school is a special and unique place where learning and
scholarship is encouraged and reinforced. Where tolerance and support of others is part of what we do every day.
We have had some staff changes for the 2015-16 school year. We will have Mr. Hendricks returning to his position
and we have retained Ms. Whitbeck to teach math and science classes. Ms. Touchet replaces Mrs. Jasumback who
retired. Ms. Touchet will be teaching Math II while Mr. Miller will teach Math I. Mr. Schroeder replaces Ms.
McDonald who has left the state of Utah.
Our senior class distinguished itself in a number of areas. We had a Gates Millennium Scholarship winner, a
National Merit Scholarship winner and 100% of the senior class graduated. Over 90% of our seniors indicate they
are heading off to college or other post-secondary education placements.
We were recognized by U.S. News and World Report as the #7 rated public high school in the state of Utah this
past year. The Daily Beast also rated AMES as the 91st best school in the United States for low income students.
We saw gains in our student’s performance as measured by the Student Assessment of Growth and Excellence
scores.
As we begin the 2015-16 school year all of our Registration materials will be available online through our website,
www.ames-slc.org. Please take the time to review all the information pertaining to fees, student schedules, bus
routes, state information system for parent/guardian tracking of grades and attendance (Aspire), and dates for the
first quarter of the year. The PTSO information is also included on the website, please support our PTSO as most of
their activities are in support of students and the fundraising done by the PTSO supports student scholarships and
activities. If you are interested in volunteering at the school this is encouraged and you may contact the PTSO
board or Mr. Wilson.
All fees will need to be paid in a timely manner including those generated by Cottonwood classes or activities.
AMES will be collecting all fee waiver information, it is very important that if you qualify for fee waivers that all
paperwork be in the AMES office by the end of September. This date is for all activities that occur throughout the
school year.
Thank you for choosing to come to AMES, to put in the work and scholarship to improve as a student. Take the
time to review the enclosures and if you have questions please contact us. We appreciate your continued support
and belief in AMES. If you are not returning to AMES please notify us by calling 801-278-9460.
Respectfully,
Brett T. Wilson, Principal/CEO
