WILTSHIRE POLICE Job Description Post Title: Intelligence Analyst Post Number: Department: Intelligence Office Work Location: Divisional MV Level Grade: W8 Security Vetting: Responsible to: Senior Analyst Date Intelligence Analysts Job Purpose Responsible for the analysis of data, intelligence/evidence regarding crime, the effect on the community and identified targets Responsible for the preparation of intelligence and evidence products, charts and graphic presentations for use in Tasking & Co-ordinating Meetings along with reactive and proactive investigations by the Constabulary and other agencies Main Responsibilities 1 Tactical Analytical Work - Responsible for the analysis of intelligence and evidence to assist in the production of Tactical Assessments and Target Profiles. Present information in chart and written form, utilising the nine analytical products contained with the NIM e.g. CPA, Results Analysis, Risk Analysis 2 Strategic Analytical Work - Responsible for the analysis of intelligence and evidence to assist in the production of Strategic Assessments and Problem Profiles required for Strategic Tasking and Coordinating Meeting. Assist Crime & Disorder Partnership Work 3 Analysing targeted crime and criminals - Analyse crimes in order to research and examine unique aspects, similarities or salient features that may indicate it is potentially linked to another crime or offender 4 Identification of crime trends and patterns - Maintain and use computer databases to identifying crime trends and series and forensically linked offences 5 Undertake presentations - Attend Divisional Tasking and Co-ordinating Meetings to give presentations 1 6 Produce information bulletins - Produce and circulate regular bulletins in conjunction with the Intelligence Staff identifying active criminals and linked crimes 7 ANACAPA Analysis - Provide flow charts in respect of major crime investigations and other criminal enquiries where large amounts of analytical information requires presentation in easily understood charted format 8 Telephone Analysis - Provide information in charted format in respect of telephone usage between offenders involved in current investigations 9 Ongoing Proactive Investigations - Undertake live analysis and assimilation of intelligence for “real time” operations as required 10 Presenting evidence at court - As required present evidence at all levels of the judicial system in the most professional manner possible, including both verbal presentations and analytical evidence itself including exhibits 11 Inputting - Input intelligence and information onto the computer systems and undertake the necessary analytical work around this 12 Development within the discipline of intelligence - Maintain and actively update knowledge of developments within the discipline of intelligence analysis and computer analysis software 13 Security Issues - Ensure the security of products in line with Force Policy Dimensions Financial There are no financial dimensions associated with this post Non-Financial (approx. per annum) Assist in the preparation of target profiles XXX number of major enquiries assisted XXX number of major incidents assisted XXX number of analytical charts prepared XXX number of court appearances XXX number of meetings/briefings attended XXX number of flagging files 2 Person Specification Intelligence Analysts Attributes On Appointment Criteria Qualifications: Formal qualification to demonstrate analytical capability to BTEC Higher or proven equivalent experience Essential Experience: Experience of utilising different forms of software packages Experience of working in a busy office environment Experience of researching and producing statistical and analytical information and presenting it both in written and oral format Experience of giving presentations Ability to produce evidence of experience in operational and strategic analysis and research in law enforcement environment Essential Essential Essential Must be computer literate Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel High degree of problem solving ability Ability and skills to work both in a team and unsupervised in important and complex intelligence related matters Ability to analyse, evaluate and interpret information/intelligence Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - incorporate a professional image when dealing with outside agencies (i.e. Crime & disorder partners, barristers, courts, telecommunications industry, drug groups, Customs & Excise, Home Office Inspectorate and NCIS and other forces) A good aptitude, ability and familiarity with computer system in order to utilise them in the research and solving of analytical problems Essential Desirable Essential Essential In depth knowledge of computer databases General awareness of equality and diversity issues in the working environment Awareness of workplace health & safety issues Understanding of confidentiality and Data Protection/Freedom of Information issues Essential Essential Skills: Knowledge: 3 Essential Essential Essential Essential Essential Desirable Essential Attributes After Training Qualifications: Completion of Nationally Accredited Analyst Course Experience: Experience of operational analysis in relation to this particular field Proven experience of preparing analytical charts and chronologies (including ANACAPA/telephone/sequencing/case flow/association charting) Skills: High level of self motivation required in relation to supporting live operations and the supply of necessary information to officers Proven skill base in relation to I2 investigative software Ability to present evidence at court as required in a proficient and professional manner Ability to provide written and verbal advice regarding the preparation of graphic representations to investigating officers on the analysis performed and the significance of behavioural characteristics exhibited by an offender(s) during the commission of crime. Due to the nature of the work, the post holder will be vetted to SC level. Post holder must be prepared to work flexibly in the event of live operations which may include evening and occasional weekend work Wiltshire Police provides a 24 hour 7 day a week service therefore applicants should be prepared to be flexible in their approach to working hours. Where applicable the post holder will be expected to wear a uniform at all times when on duty. You will be required to attend all necessary and relevant training courses in respect of your employment to ensure compliance with the policies of the Force.
