If you have been accepted for an exchange program, you will be asked to prepare your Study Plan for your period abroad. This
Study Plan should be compliant with the rules of your Study Plan at Politecnico di Milano, which is generally based on one of the 9
“streams” proposed in the new MSc Degree or to the main plan of the Bachelor Degree.
To prepare your plan, you need to find corresponding courses in the foreign institution. This equivalence should be based on the
courses’ content, as well on the required effort (generally measured in ECTS, credits, hours, etc.). These equivalences should be
approved by one of the professors (Referente di Area Geografica) delegated by the CCS of Management Engineering. This professor
should sign an official document (Learning Agreement) with the foreign institution for allowing your experience abroad.
Before this – mandatory – official signature you should collect all the information and all the needed authorizations from the
appropriate professors (see the last template, “Authorization for replacing courses” at the bottom of this document).
In general, the aim of this document template is to support you in this process and it should be used for creating your personal
“dossier”. Please use it as a reference for managing the whole process, using it for communicating with the professors and for
registering your plan. One all the information is collected, you will possess all the data you need for finalising your official
Learning Agreement, to be signed by one of the professors and then submitted to the Studesk.

Content of the course (s)
You can just print out from the website the
content and bring it to the meeting with the
professor
You should fill the following table (copy and paste for each course / component) to clearly show which course / component (s) you want to attend abroad and to which course @ POLIMI it
(they) correspond to. Remind that to convert 10 credits @ POLIMI you need at least 7,5 ECTS abroad and that for yuour normal plan of 30 credits you need to collect at least 27,5 ECTS (see
Guideline document for details). As you know, in Politecnico we offer mainly 10 credtis courses; you could find 1-2-3 courses (e.g. 2 + 2 + 3 credits) covering more or less the same content of the
course @ POLIMI. When ready, in order to get the official acceptance of the desired equivalence, this table should be discussed with the professor in charge for the international exchanges
(Referente di Area Geografica). When all the equivalences will be defined and agreed, this professor will be entitled to sign your Learning Agreement, the official document that allows you to
start your foreign experience.

The following table must be filled when you have the full list of the courses / components that you want to attend abroad. This table, based on an Excel spreadsheet, will check the consistency
of your plan in terms of credits (at least 27,5 credits for having 30 CFU).
See the example provided in the following table and make your final version accordingly. If your plan doesn’t satisfy the credits limit, you will see a RED alert in your spreadsheet.

Authorization for replacing courses4
Dear colleague
I (Prof. _____________________________________________________) can confirm you that I’ve checked the
content of the course (s) ____________________________________________________________________________
planned at University _______________________________________________________________________________,
where Ms/Mr __________________________________________________ will be for her/his exchange period.
I found that this / these course (s) could be considered equivalent to our course at Politecnico
di Milano, entitled ________________________________________________________________________.
Date _________________________
Signature____________________________
The following text should be used as a reference template for collecting – when needed – the authorization from the professor in
charge of some specific topics (so-called Esperto di Area Disciplinare). According to the described process, you should collect
some of these letters for having the official acceptance for replacing some of the courses in your Study Plan with courses taken
abroad (this is the so-called equivalence with POLIMI courses).
These letters should be then provided to the professor responsible of your mobility plan (Referente di Area Geografica), for giving
him/her the needed visibility on your proposed plan. Instead of the letter (s), you can also provide printed email (s) exchanged
with professors, just to confirm that you have the needed authorization for replacing the asked course (s). As written above, when
all the equivalences will be agreed, the professor responsible of your final destination will be entitled to sign your Learning
Agreement, the official document to start your experience abroad.
