BODYTRAFFIC Returns Premiering Three Works
November 4-8
NextMove at the Prince
(Philadelphia, PA) Known for its athletic and theatrical dancing, varied repertoire and works commissioned by some of
today’s most sought after choreographers, BODYTRAFFIC returns to Philadelphia November 4-8 in six performances,
Prince Theater, 1412 Chestnut Street. The company, under the direction of Lillian Rose Barbeito and Tina Finkelman
Berkett, brings three Philadelphia premieres showcasing the company’s prowess and versatility.
Performances take place Wednesday, November 4 at 7:30pm; Thursday, November 5 at 7:30pm; Friday, November 6 at
8pm; Saturday, November 7 at 2pm and 8pm; and Sunday, November 8 at 3pm. Tickets cost $20-$57 and can be
purchased in person at the Prince Theater Box Office, by phone 215-422-4580 or online
http://princetheater.org/bodytraffic.
The program opens with The New 45, a jazzy trio, choreographed by Richard Siegal to music of Clark Terry, Oscar
Peterson and Harry Belafonte. Siegel is the Artistic Director of The Bakery Paris-Berlin and his earlier work o2Joy
premiered on BODYTRAFFIC’s debut program on the Dance Celebration series. Once again, before you go is a new work
by RUBBERBANDance Group co-artistic director/choreographer Victor Quijada. It reflects his fluid aesthetic that fuses hip
hop, ballet and contemporary dance. This ensemble piece opens with an earthy solo by Andrew Wojtal filled with rippling
undulations and impulses set to an original score by Jasper Gahunia, a frequent Quijada collaborator, groundbreaking
DJ, producer, songwriter and musician. The New York Times said “it’s a quiet tale of invisible connections.” Closing the
program is Joshua Peugh’s A Trick of Light. Peugh was named as one of Dance Magazines “25 to Watch” in 2015. This
whimsical work was inspired by the green flash that occurs before the sun disappears while viewing a sunset. Peugh uses
fast footwork, ballroom dance elements and playful gestures to create “a sweet and funny vintage-style dance with a
lightness and nostalgia that is irrestible.” (Vancouver Observer)
In addition to the performances, the company will perform two outreach activities – a Student Discovery program for
schools on Friday November 6 at 10:30am and a free master class at 1pm. The company will offer two post performance
chats for ticket holders on Thursday and Saturday (2pm) immediately following the performance.
