Bias through selection and omission – What is the article about? What is it NOT about? Did it leave anything out on purpose?

Bias through placement – Where is this article focusing on? A certain area? A certain population? Is this skewed in any way to not represent the whole?

Bias of word and tone – Are words charged emotionally? Are they evoking feelings in the reader, or are they more based on facts? Look at tone.

Bias by headline – Is there emotion evoked in the title?

Look at word choice.

Bias by photos, captions, and camera angles – What do the pictures say about the story? Are they representative of the whole or just a part of the story?

Bias through use of names and titles – What names or terms are in the article? Are they objective or somehow biased when referring to people or organizations, etc.?

Bias through statistics and crowd counts – What data is there? Is it representative of the event as a whole?

Bias by source control – Who or what are the sources of the article? Are they reliable?
