Twelfth Night Mini-Project
Choose one of the following projects to complete. Make sure you read and understand all of
the requirements of the project that you choose.

Illustration of a quote

8” X 8”

edge-to-edge illustration (in color)

quote on a small separate slip of paper- glued to the illustration

does not have to be a literal interpretation of the action in the scene

explanation of the quote (context, analysis, etc.) on typed in MLA format on a separate
sheet of paper
Design a set for a scene

8” X 8”

edge-to-edge illustration (preferably in color)

quote on a small separate slip of paper- glued to the illustration

must include all elements that will be on the stage (props, furniture, characters, etc.)

explanation of the scene (context, analysis, etc.) on typed in MLA format on a separate
sheet of paper
Illustration of a theme

8” X 8”

edge-to-edge illustration (in color)

must include at least 5 quotes from Acts I-V that show the development of the theme—
these should be written on the back of the illustration

explanation of the theme (context, analysis, etc.) on typed in MLA format on a separate
sheet of paper
Olivia’s Diary

400-500 words

Can include 1-4 entries

Should include her feelings about her whole situation: mourning for her brother, loving
Cesario, loathing Orsino, etc.

does not have to be written in Shakespearean style, but it should be rather formal in tone
(remember that Olivia is nobility—she would not write in slang, even in her diary)
Viola’s Diary

400-500 words

Can include 1-4 entries

Should include her feelings about her whole situation: mourning for her brother, “being”
Cesario, loving Orsino, etc.

does not have to be written in Shakespearean style, but it should be rather formal in tone
(remember that Viola is nobility—she would not write in slang, even in her diary)
Sebastian’s Diary

400-500 words

Can include 1-4 entries

Includes a high level of creativity—you’ll be making up Sebastian’s adventures, since we
don’t know at this point how he’s been spending his time since the shipwreck that separated
him from Viola

does not have to be written in Shakespearean style, but it should be rather formal in tone
(remember that Sebastian is nobility—he would not write in slang, even in his diary)
A Forgotten Scene

500-650 words

Must include at least 3 characters

Must clearly indicate where your scene fits in the play

Must include the characterization, motifs, & themes we have already seen in the play

Does not have to be written in Shakespearean verse, but it should reflect effort to match
Shakespeare’s style and diction
Hints and Reminders:

This is a 75- point assignment that will go in the reading category in the gradebook.
(*please remember that this is the category in which many of you need a really good grade!)

I will be looking for:
o
Adequate knowledge of the play
o
Effort
o
Critical thinking—how much thought you put into your interpretation & analysis
o
Aesthetics—do not turn in messy work, rough drafts of writing, or apathetic stick
figures in a drawing!

The art supplies are in a set of drawers in the front of the room (make sure the sub pulls
them out so you can get to them.)

Construction paper is located in the white caddy on the file cabinets in the back of the room

Glue sticks and scissors are located in the wire baskets on the front shelves
