Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Job Description Post: Management Accountant Responsible to: Director of Strategic Business Planning Responsible for: Assistant Management Accountant Summary of Role: To provide a high level of professional accounting and management support to the Director of Strategic Business Planning which will ensure all objectives in the LSTM group finance strategy are met or exceeded. Particular emphasis is given to the management of LSTM’s subsidiary companies, assessment of business plans and support for teaching & learning. General Responsibilities: 1. Assist in the preparation of the LSTM Group of Companies Financial Statements 2. Assist in the preparation of the LSTM Group of Companies annual budgets 3. Work alongside the Director of Strategic Business Planning in delivering LSTM’s strategic plan through the development & preparation of management accounting information 4. Work closely with the other accountants within the LSTM Group either leading or assisting, where appropriate 5. Make a significant contribution towards the development of the finance department’s future strategic plan 6. Take an active role in the change management process, contributing ideas, dealing with staff concerns, & taking a lead role in its implementation 7. Responsibility for annual staff appraisals, training & development needs & goal setting through the year in line with the strategic plan 8. Effectively project manage appropriate cross functional projects throughout LSTM when required 9. Provide advice & support on finance issues to all staff 10. Ensure compliance with both the financial regulations & financial procedures 11. Develop & monitor key performance indicators 12. Ad hoc project work as required Specific Responsibilities: 1. Monthly accounts preparation for all LSTM subsidiaries including budgets, forecasts and KPIs 2. Assist the Director of Strategic Business Planning to prepare all Board & Management reports 3. Be the main point of contact for all issues relating to overseas office finance 4. Be responsible for the development and assessment of business plans in the LSTM Group 5. Development & monitoring of effective financial systems in overseas offices in collaboration with the Financial Accountant 6. Monitoring actual income/expenditure to budget & anticipating potential adverse variances 7. Monitoring and development of KPIs relevant to the strategic plan 8. Discussing & resolving potential adverse variances with subsidiary budget holders, faculty and department heads 9. Line management of the assistant management accountant 10. Act as the lead accountant on one, or more, large research grants, influencing future financial decisions or events related to the grant for the benefit of LSTM 11. Act as the lead accountant to one faculty, providing quality financial and business support 12. Provide support and assistant to the Head of International Teaching 13. Provide financial information to the Director of Finance on matters relating to the HEFCE grant & HEFCE returns 14.
